Principal's Update - October/November 2019
Autumn Greetings!
The OHES faculty and students are celebrating many special events in October. During the early part of the month everyone participated in Week of Respect events. These included a golden rule day, a superhero day to show we stand up for others, and a cultural differences day. The school counselors also introduced a week of respect challenge. Students were tasked with being respectful in their related arts classes. If the class was respectful they earned a high five which will culminate in a laugh off celebration assembly. Also wrapping up our month of respect there will be a reader's theater assembly for the students based on the book Miss Nelson is Missing to demonstrate the importance of being respectful in school.
The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge hit as always and children enjoyed shopping for new books. We can't thank our PTA volunteers enough for being on hand to setup book displays and help the students with book selections. Additionally, it's always exciting when our volunteer firefighters visit and bring the fire trucks to share fire prevention tips with our children!
We are looking forward to ending October with our annual Halloween parade and parties. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place in November. Please take this opportunity to meet with classroom teachers, review student progress and together set future goals.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Scotti and Mr. Van Hise
Enjoying the Fall weather!

Halloween Parades and Parties
Halloween parades will take place on Thursday, October 31 at 10:00 am and 2:15 pm. Classroom teachers will inform parents if their class is participating in the morning or afternoon parade. Room parents will be in contact regarding classroom parties. Please remember to park in the main parking lot as the parade will take place in the bus lane in front of the school. Information will be posted on our school website. Please understand that in the event of a rainy day the parade will be cancelled. Children are still welcome to wear costumes to school for their classroom parties.
Costumes
Please follow these guidelines for students' costumes:
- Costumes should be kept simple
- Students should not bring any "extras" like wands, swords, or other handheld items
- Students should be able to put on and take off their own costumes
- Students should not wear masks that hinder their vision or costumes that hinder movement while participating in the parade
- Any face painting should be kept to a minimum
BUS SAFETY REMINDERS!
From the moment they step onto the bus in the morning, until their safe arrival back home later in the day, your children are Orchard Hill students. At the beginning of each new year and periodically throughout the year students are reminded of expectations at OHES, the bus being one area of focus. Students learn to follow the A, B, C, D, E of bus safety and behavior.
A: Assigned Seat
Students are assigned a bus seat and should remain there for the duration of the ride.
B: Buckle up
Students should buckle their seat belts and pull the belt snug across their lap.
C: Correct Sitting
Students sit facing forward with their bottoms on the seat and feet to the front.
D: Driver is in Charge
Bus drivers should be treated respectfully and their bus rules be followed. They have a difficult, yet extremely important job - getting our students to and from school safely.
* Stay seated
* Buckle up
* No food or drinks
* Quiet voices
* Respectful language
E: Even on the Bus be a Bucket Filler
Be kind and respectful towards others.
Your assistance in reinforcing these bus riding safety reminders with your children is appreciated!
