MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 12/3-12/7
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
Focus on what's most important.
Easy to say, hard to do. But we're doing it!
Many in our 5K class came in without school experience. Many kids exceeded the goals we set for them. Several kids went from knowing 0 letters to nearly all of them as well as several sounds in the 1st trimester, thanks to the work of Jenna, Jesse, Bryan, Crystal, Anna and Alex.
In 1st grade, all students significantly below benchmarks met the reading goals set at the beginning of October, thanks to purpseful grouping and targeted instruction with Rebecca, Sarah, Jennifer, Diane, Alex, Anna, and STEP volunteers. Way to go!
In 5th grade, students are well on their way to meeting their promise standard of multiplying 2x2 with efficient strategies including the algorighm. All but a few students are able to multiply 2x2 due to the flexible grouping and responsive use of Tiger Time. Way to go, Sue and Jodi!
In 4th grade, students have made significant progress in their fluency with multiplication facts in Origo, thanks to consistent groups with Carrie and Sue.
These are but a few examples of the pay offs of your hard work. Not bad for 1st trimester!
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- We do not have all staff meetings during the mornings this coming week to provide some time for report cards. Collaborative Team meetings during the day will continue.
- Please put printed report cards in my mailbox by Friday 12/7. I will proof them as quickly as I can. Holly will give you envelopes and labels, and you'll need to stuff them. If you need an extension, talk to me.
Academic Vocabulary with ELL
This is one of my favorite ways to teach writing to students. We know that students need to be able to talk about something before they can write about it. This strategy allows for that along with visuals for extra support.
