Holy cow! Next week is the end of the quarter. It has flown by. Teachers will be working on finalizing quarter 1 grades at the end of next week. Please be sure that you have entered student attendance in K12 and that students are working hard in their coursework so their grades accurately reflect their efforts.
Thank you all so much for being examples of growth mindset for our students. You have been persistent in your communication with OVS staff, you have worked hard to figure out technology barriers and frustrations, and you have kept your students' learning at the center of what you do. Thank you so much! We will continue to reflect throughout this school year to ensure that we are providing the best possible experience for students.

K12 Art Contest
K12.com is having an art contest and we want to see your student's artistic talent!
The theme for K12's 12th Annual Art Contest is CELEBRATE CULTURE!
We’re asking students to roll up their sleeves, tap into their artistic side, and create artwork that illustrates how they would celebrate culture. They could Illustrate a customary dance they perform, a food they eat on special occasions, the flag that represents where their ancestors are from, the games their family plays on Friday nights, or something else entirely.
You can submit multiple entries for your student, and the artwork can be realistic or abstract. Students can use paint, photography, or drawing materials or create a collage, a digital illustration, or a three-dimensional piece using clay, origami, etc.
View the full contest guidelines, and submit your student's entry at stories.k12.com. Be sure to enter by 5 PM (ET) on October 31, 2017.
Classroom Happenings
Ms. Roger's Classroom
Week in Review:
This week we focused on Main Idea and Supporting Details in reading. We read The Important Book, some students didn't understand why the author chose to write about the important things they did, we talked about how everyone has their own opinion about what is important to them. In Math Kindergarten talked about the words more, fewer, and equal. 1st graders focused on addition facts that make 10. Keep practicing those facts!
Looking Ahead:
Next week, we will continue to focus on Main Idea and Supporting Details. Students will be brainstorming a list of important things and choose one to build a model of in Minecraft. We will then create class important thing book. Students in Kindergarten will focus on counting and writing numbers. 1st grade will continue to practice mastering addition facts to 20.
Please be sure to bring your headphones and mouse to Face to Face time. Students will find coding and Minecraft much easier to maneuver if they have their mouse to use!
We have been using Epic Books in class and some students have been asking to use this at home. Please follow the link to Epic Books from the Symbaloo page and then enter our class code WVQ-6861 and students should be able to access their account.
