January-February Training Opportunities for Champions Together

We are finalizing places and dates for some training opportunities for more schools to be involved in Champions Together-In The Middle- program, in collaboration with Special Olympics Indiana. School sponsored Champions Together activities must be planned, organized and administered by an “Inclusive Student Leadership” team that strives to do things WITH students with intellectual disabilities, NOT for them. The program can be as simple as a fitness club to as advanced as teams that compete against other schools. Champions Together has been wildly successful at the high school level, and was extended to middle schools last year. The training opportunity dates will be announced very soon; so far we are working with Fort Wayne, Lowell MS, Rochester MS, Shelbyville MS, South Ripley JH, and Tri-West MS to host. The plan is to have a morning program (over by lunch), with 1-2 adults and at least 2 students traveling to the host school. There is more information on our Champions Together section on our website. Contact Susie Highley with any questions and to indicate your interest!

Please indicate interest no later than January 14 so that arrangements can be made to match you with a convenient site. Attending a training does not obligate you to participate in the program, but after hearing testimonials from the schools already involved, you will be inspired!

Beyond Data Walls: Creating a Holistic View of Students

Thanks to board member Daryl Werner for recommending this article from Mindshift. Data does not have to be test scores, or even numbers! This would be a valuable tool to help build relationships with students.
