Swimming, Flip Flops, and All Things Summer

Well hello there AMAZING Patriots!

Oh my goodness I have so many questions to ask you when you get back to PHJH!

Did you get to go swimming in a lake or a pool or both?

Where did you go on vacation? Did you go out of state, or stay in Utah and have a staycation?

Did you catch any fish or lightning bugs? ( I know currently there are no lightning bugs in Utah, but if you ever go to Kansas, they are everywhere and they are magical!)

I hope whatever your family does in the summer brings you joy, and gives you some time to unwind and enjoy a healthy dose of sunshine and whatever is in the Ice Cream Man's truck.

If you are new to PHJH, we wanted to welcome you to the family, and make sure you know how excited we all are to see your beautiful faces in the fall. Once school starts, students and parents will get a weekly newsletter that comes out on Sundays. We encourage our parents AND students to use the newsletter to make sure you are aware of all of the happenings each week.

So far this Summer, we had our first ever Success over the Summer program, the premiere of Frozen and Lion King, and we are working really hard to get the student store all set up to make sure we are ready to roll as soon as the year starts. Parents and students, if you have a phone you are going to want to keep an eye on the newsletters for information on downloading the PBIS application to your phone. If you don't have a phone, no problem, we will give the students time to access the student store on school Chromebooks to see how many points they have saved up, and make purchases for the upcoming week.

Stay safe and make sure to put your electronic screens down and apply sunscreen often with your remaining summer days!

As Always Patriots,

We love you!

Summer Happenings

Summer Success Program

This year we had our first ever Success Through the Summer Program, and good gracious was it fun. This was a pilot program designed to help bridge the gap from 5th to 6th grade for a select group of students coming to the Junior High next year.

The program went for two weeks and gave students an opportunity to learn some of the first quarter academic skills in English, Math, and Science as well as get a practice run at the Junior High. Students studied fractions, argument writing, and did lots of experimenting with the Scientific Method (some of which included building a rat maze)!

The pilot program went so well, we are looking at ways to expand the program next year to support a larger group of students. We ended the two weeks of learning with a trip to the Aquarium.

Take a look at some of the Summer Success Patriot fun!

Theater... The Show Must and Did Go On

Frozen and Lion King Made It To The Big Stage

As all of us know, 2020-2021 was the year of everything going exactly how it WASN'T planned. We all got really good at adjusting to unexpected hiccups, and man did Mrs. Silver have a big hurdle to overcome. As you know the musicals were recorded and projected for the premiers to keep social distancing measures in place. In true 2020-2021 fashion, all of the files that had all of the recordings, that had taken days and hours to complete got corrupted so the premier had to be canceled. Then just like a miracle, Mrs. Silver was able to work with some contacts to get the files recovered, and rescheduled the event. We want to give a huge shout-out to Mrs. Silver, Ms. Jennings, and Mrs. Matthews for working so hard this year to keep the theater program running strong. We also want to give a standing ovation to all of the students that participated in the shows. You all did magnificently and bring such joy to PHJH.

If you didn't get to make it to the premiere, take a look at some of the pictures below.

Also, if you would like a link to the videos of the musicals, shoot me an email and I will send them your way. (

Did Someone Say a Parade???

We don't know about you, but we think summer just isn't summer without a good old-fashioned Herriman parade. We were all so grateful and excited to get to not only have a parade this year but also get to participate in it. It was a sheer joy getting to see all of the community lining the streets with big smiles and tons of candy as an added bonus. We love our Herriman peeps!!

Physical Form Required For Student Playing On any of The Sports Teams Next Year

Big picture
Here at PHJH we are so lucky to have the opportunity to have a plethora of extracurricular activities available for students to try out for and participate in throughout the year. One of the REQUIREMENTS of having your student participate on any of the school teams is a yearly physical completed by their physician. We have provided the form below for you to print off and take to your student's appointment. The form is good for the entire school year, so please make sure you get this done ASAP.

Also, as a reminder, Girl's Volleyball Tryouts are coming up on August 5!! Ready, set, practice that spike!

Speaking of the 21-22 School Year...

  • Schedules for the 21-22 school year will be released at the beginning of August. Stay tuned for specific dates!
  • Yes, students will be issued lockers this year!
  • A school supply list and dress code will be sent out in a couple of weeks so families can get prepared (and shop the back-to-school sales if they'd like!)
  • The first day of school for 6th graders is August 17
  • The first day of school for 7-8 graders is August 18

We are sooooo very excited to see you soon!! Soak up those summer rays and have some fun in the sun!!
