February Newsletter
School District of New Richmond - February 23, 2024
Letter From The Superintendent
Dear SDNR Community,
On January 15, 2024, the School Board adopted a resolution to hold a referendum addressing facility needs. This decision was based on the thorough recommendations put forth by the dedicated Facility Task Force.
Comprising 47 individuals, the Facility Task Force invested considerable time and effort in understanding the needs of the District. They actively listened to your input, incorporating the results of the community-wide survey into their planning process, making modifications based on the survey results.
The top three needs identified by the Task Force are:
- Address building capacity for our growing enrollment
- Invest in continued maintenance of our facilities
- Create appropriate learning environments to adequately meet the needs of our students & staff
The referendum vote is scheduled for April 2, 2024, and we encourage everyone to stay well-informed about this important event. We invite you to attend two large Community Information Sessions. The sessions will take place on Thursday, March 7, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Starr Elementary School, and on Saturday, March 9, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the New Richmond Middle School and include tours of the buildings.
Please be on the lookout for an informational mailer in your mailboxes in the coming weeks, providing further details about the referendum. We also encourage you to visit the District Website regularly, as we will continue to update it with information and frequently asked questions. On the website, you will be able to find a link to view our first mailer, as well as a link to our community presentation.
Thank you for your continued support of our School District and the students and families that we serve.
Sincerely,
Troy Miller
Superintendent

Empty Bowls Information!
Empty Bowls Week runs from March 11 through March 15. All events listed serve to fundraise for New Richmond students and their families enrolled in the Happy Kids Backpack Program. This program provides food for households and for children during their school day in the form of snacks at snack time.
*Please note that the printed district calendar sent to families and staff in August 2023 included the incorrect date for our Empty Bowls Soup Night Event.
*Special thanks to NRHS student, Megan Affeldt, who designed this year's Empty Bowls shirt!
*Our 2024 shirt design also features a very special quote: "Be Someone's Hero" from our beloved, late Mr. Hop.

Student Learning Update
Student Update: NRHS
Every eight years, the SDNR hosts eight schools for our District #4 Leadership Development Events for FFA. It's been 11 years since the SDNR has hosted this event due to the pandemic.
The event had a strong attendance and took place in many of our first-floor classrooms. A special thank you goes out to our staff members and community members who volunteered to assist with the event. We had 40+ community members in our building volunteering their time to ensure that the event ran smoothly. It was a huge success and the FFA is grateful for all of the community-wide efforts!
Student Update: NRMS
Student Update: Hillside Elementary
Our Hillside Kindergarten classes celebrated 100 days in Kindergarten on Friday, February 9. We made special hats to celebrate the day, counted 100 objects, painted 100 gumballs, wrote 100 words, and counted to 100 all day long! Watching our students learn and grow during the first 100 days has been amazing. We are so proud of the many achievements and successes that our students have had!
