Assistant Principal’s Message

WRCS families,

Welcome to March! Hopefully, we are turning the corner from winter to spring, and warm weather is just around the corner. Our playground and field get pretty wet this time of year, so just a reminder to get out those splash pants and rubber boots! An extra pair of clothing at school is also a great idea, no matter the age of your child.

March is full of many fun activities for WRCS students. There are ski trips to Whispering Pines Ski Hill in Worsley for grades 5 & 6, and Marmot Basin in Jasper for junior high for those students who signed up! We also have a Book Fair running in our library from March 27th - March 30th, which will be open during the evening of parent teacher interviews, on March 30th. Report cards will head home March 16th, and bookings for parent teacher interviews will open March 20th.

We are grateful to have such knowledgeable and dedicated staff at our school, who support our students and encourage them to reach their full potential. As educators, the time spent connecting with students is the best part of our job; we learn as much from our students as they do from us! The Mighty Peace Teachers’ Convention is approaching quickly on March 9th & 10th, and there is a PD day for teachers March 17th; there will not be school on those days. The upcoming teachers’ convention is something to look forward to; whether teachers choose to focus on curriculum, wellness, or assessment, it is a great time to build connections with other educators and find innovative ways to engage students in the classroom.

I truly believe that WRCS has the best community of educators, leaders, and parents to help support our youth, and I thank you for all you do. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Here’s to a wonderful, warm spring and a successful rest of the school year!

DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Our school parking lot can be incredibly busy. Please be very careful when driving through, and ensure that you're always letting your children out of the vehicle along the sidewalk. We are working with our School Council as well as the school division to mitigate the congestion, but the fact is we simply have a very large population and the parking lot and drop-off lane gets full fast.

Given our high population of students, parents are asked to please wait outside the building at the beginning and end of each school day. Our hallways are very crowded with students (and staff), and this helps us to mitigate congestion while also ensuring we know who is in our building at any given time during the day. It is a great idea to plan a meeting point with your child where they know to look for you.

Whispering Ridge Community School Fees

Please try to have your school fees paid asap as they are now overdue. Please note that students will not be permitted to do extra curricular activities without this fee paid.

In order to ensure we can continue to offer enriching learning experiences and optimal programming for our students, we are instating a small school fee for students in grades 1-8. The school administration team worked with our School Council group to weigh the pros and cons, and to ensure that this decision was supported moving forward. So with the support of our School Council, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, we will kindly ask that each family pay a small fee of $30 per student.

What will this money be used for?

  • Purchasing additional resources/supplies to enhance learning

  • Supporting enrichment projects and activities

  • Additional off-site learning opportunities

  • Helping with the rising costs of operation and basic supplies

How do I pay this fee?

  • Our school office accepts cash, cheque, and debit

What if I can’t afford this?
