Halloween Parent Donations Needed
Greetings HMS parents!
The middle school staff recognizes that this is an atypical year. We're missing out on a lot of fun fall traditions due to the Covid pandemic. While students are enjoying being in class and enjoying time with their teachers and friends, we realize this school year isn't the same as past years. We're trying to be creative to make sure our students are having fun while being safe. Because of the unknown status of trick-or-treating in our area, and concerns that parents may have for their kids while trick-or-treating, we have decided to provide a safe and controlled environment for dressing up and celebrating
The Culture Committee at the middle school would like to have a Halloween Parade for the students this year with the help of your donations. This will be conducted on October 29th and October 30th so both A and B day students are involved. Remote students may report to the office on those dates if they want to pick up a bag of treats or may participate in the parade if so desired. We will be using safety measures such as social distancing and wearing masks during the parade and using gloves and tongs to pass out the treats.
Due to food allergies, we have an approved list of treats that we need help providing for this parade. The list is as follows.
Small bottles of water
Welch's Fruit Snacks
Lays Potato Chips
Fritos
Starbursts
Sour Patch Kids
Life Saver Gummies
Laffy Taffy
Nerds
Gum
Skittles
The Culture Committee will also be purchasing non-food items for this parade. We would appreciate donations of any kind to help us with 375 students. We would like to have these donations delivered to the office by Monday, October 26th. Thanks in advance for your help. We live in a generous community and we appreciate your support.
6 Tips for Promoting Student Accountability During Distance or Hybrid Learning
HMS: Parents, we are asking you to encourage your student to advocate for themselves and become personally responsible for their grades. Please do not feel like you need to “be the teacher”. Instead, encourage your students to make the following suggestions part of their everyday remote routine.
Have a consistent routine during remote days including waking up early
Have a designated place in the house for doing schoolwork separate from where social activities take place
Check each class for new assignments in Google Classroom
Plan for one hour per class per day
Check PowerSchool Grades for missing assignments at least once per week
Advocate for themself by emailing their teachers directly with questions over directions or missing assignments
Keep in mind, all missing/late work will be given full credit as soon as it is turned in this year. Those with good grades have no missing assignments!
What is a Digital Footprint?
A digital footprint is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes the websites you visit, emails you send, and the information you submit to online services.

Hand2Hand
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We would like to offer your student the opportunity to participate in a program at Hopkins Middle School called “Hand2Hand”. This program helps provide a student with food for the weekends and is intended for families who currently may be experiencing a financial burden. The first backpack is set to be delivered on September 24.
Here’s how Hand2Hand will work: At the end of the week students who are signed up for the program will receive a minimum of 10 food items in a black school logo drawstring bag that will be provided at the first week of participation. These food items will be a combination of breakfast, snacks, lunch and/or dinner items. While the food items are meant for the student, they can be shared among the family as well. (Please note: if your student or another family member has food allergies it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to check the contents of the backpack each week to ensure the food doesn’t contain ingredients which could cause an allergic reaction).
To learn more about Hand2Hand, please visit their website: http://h2hkids.org.
If you feel your student would benefit from this opportunity, please complete the response form at the bottom of this letter and return it to your student’s teacher and we will make sure that your student’s name is then added to the list. Your response will be kept confidential.
Sincerely,
Scott Stockwell
