Soledad Unified School District
REGULAR BOARD MEETING FOR FEBRUARY 8, 2023

BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 8, 2023
Public Hearing Regarding Proposed Composition of By-Trustee Area Maps -
The Soledad Unified School District’s Governing Board is currently elected under an “at-large” election system, where trustees can reside anywhere in the District, and are elected by voters of the entire District. On September 14, 2022, the Board adopted Resolution No. 9-03-22, signaling its intent to transition to by-trustee area elections. In a by-trustee area election system, each Board member must reside within the designated trustee area boundary and is elected only by the voters in that trustee area. On October 12, 2022 and November 9, 2022, the Board received a presentation from National Demographics Corporation regarding the process used to draw potential trustee area boundaries, and held a public hearing to gather input on the composition of potential trustee areas. In early January 2023, the District timely published draft trustee area maps on the District’s website. On January 11, 2023, the proposed trustee area maps were presented to the Board. Following the presentation, the Board held the first of two statutorily required public hearings to receive community input on the proposed trustee-area maps.
On February 8, 2023, the proposed trustee area maps was again presented to the Board. Following the presentation, the Board held a public hearing to receive community input on the proposed trustee-area maps. See the presentation here
The Governing Board has scheduled a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. to select a final map.
