Character Trait of the Month - October

Every month, we will focus on teaching important character traits to students during short lessons in their classroom. For the month of October, we will focus on Empathy. Please help us as we develop this trait with students by talking with them at home on what empathy means and how we show empathy to others. For the theme of Empathy, students are encouraged to WEAR ORANGE on October 1.

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Martin Elementary will hold its Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Students can decorate pumpkins (either purchase a real pumpkin or drawn on manila drawing paper) as their favorite book character. Real pumpkins CANNOT be carved and should instead be decorated with glue, paper, fabric, paint, etc. Drawn pumpkins can simply be drawn and colored. Prizes include dollar certificates towards purchases in the Martin Fall Scholastic Book Fair. All entries must be dropped off by October 18th by 3:00PM. All entries will be displayed and the winners will be announced at the Fall Festival on October 25th. For questions, please contact our Librarian, Ms. T. Jones.

Come one, come all! On October 25th, Martin will hold our annual Fall Festival! Games, food, refreshments, entertainment, jumping balloons, pictures, and all around fun! The whole family is invited to join us as we enjoy the companionship of our entire Martin Mustang Community. Tickets for food and activities will go on sale starting October 1st. They are sold in packs of 50 for $10 in advance from 7:20-8:00AM in the front foyer. Tickets will be 4 for a $1 the day of the event. Please contact our Family Liaison, Mrs. Cortes, if you have any questions.

October 2nd - Custodians' Day

Our custodians have been working hard all year to ensure our students and staff operate in a clean, organized, and safe environment. Join us in showing them our appreciation and celebrate them on National Custodians' Day. If you see a custodian in the building, tell them thank you for the hard work they do every day!

October 7th - World Day of Bullying Prevention

The first Monday of every October is World Day of Bullying Prevention! On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying. It also kicks off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month every October. Join us in solidarity to stop bullying and cyberbullying! Make it the day that bullying prevention is heard around the world! Students and staff are encouraged to WEAR BLUE to use their voice and send a message that this is the day that bullying prevention is heard around the world. Change the Culture!

October 11 - House Assemblies

Martin's Houses are in hot pursuit of that #1 spot to earn the coveted Martin House Trophy by the end of the year. We will have our 2nd House Assembly on October 11th for each house to enjoy some activities to grow bonds across classrooms and grade levels. Events include House cheers, dancing, and other House spirit activities. Students are encouraged to "color-out" in their respective house color. Clothing must still conform to proper mode of dress (shorts/skirts no more than 2 inches above the knee, solid colored tops, closed-toe sneakers, etc), but the color can match their house. Students can also wear their Red, Green, Yellow, or Blue Martin spirit shirts, or come in regular mode of dress.

October 14th - Columbus Day (NO SCHOOL)

October 14th is Columbus Day and there will be no school for students or staff. Please take the day to enjoy some engaging activities in some, hopefully, pleasant weather. Have a family picnic, ride a bike, go on a walk, or visit the local library!
