Family Newsletter
Week of May 10, 2021
As we prepare for the next school year, our goal is to create the best community for learning in each classroom. The classroom community might include students of the same grade level or it may include students at two different grade levels (split grade class). A great deal of time, energy and professional judgment goes into the placement of each and every on of our students. Factors we consider while building balanced classes include: combinations of students that create the strongest learning environment possible (for all students, not just a few), student personality, behavior and special needs, as well as individual learning styles.
Please fill out the Google Form for every child you have enrolled at Edmonds Elementary between K-5 grade.
- The information included on this Google Form is shared with the entire student placement committee including classroom teachers, administrators, counselors and specialists. We use a team approach for class placement.
- Teaching assignments are not confirmed at this time.
- Specific teacher requests are not accepted.
- Our goal is to inform families of class placements several days prior to the start of school.
- Enrollment numbers after the start of school may require adjustments in a student’s class placement.
Please submit this Placement Form for every K-5 child in your household ASAP.
Please Complete attestations by 7:15 - earlier if possible!
Parent Pick-up and Drop-off Please stay in your car and in line... avoid walking between vehicles
Safety Note: if at all possible, please have your child/children exit the vehicle on the right side next to the sidewalk so they don't have to walk between cars. Also, please do not park in the lot to pick up students as we want to keep students safe and not crossing between vehicles.

Clothes for Kids
Clothes For Kids is still open and serving local students by appointment only. Students who have already shopped with Clothes For Kids once this school year can schedule an appointment to shop for a second wardrobe. In May, we will be open for school shopping on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Families need to schedule an appointment for each student shopper: https://clothesforkids.org/book-an-appointment/. The family can fill out the Requisition for Clothing form here at the shop when they come in for their appointments.
If students/families prefer, our volunteers can select clothing for the students and set a time for someone to pick it up at the Clothes For Kids shop (take-out style) within one week. Students will be able to order wardrobes for pick-up through the end of the school year (please see attached Order for Pick-up form).
Clothes For Kids provides free school clothing (including socks, underwear, outerwear, and shoes) to lower-income students. Any student in Snohomish County or the Northshore School District (Head Start/ECEAP through 12th grade) who requests help is eligible to receive free school clothing from Clothes For Kids. Our school clothing starts at size 3T and goes up to 2X adult sizes).
Best regards,

Tech Support
Edmonds Tech Orientation
Contact: Sarah Luczyk
The Libraries and Instructional Department and Technology Department are pleased to offer video training and a hands on Canvas course for families new to the Edmonds School District as well as other families that may want an overview of our online instructional tools. The links to the orientation video, Canvas course, and other helpful materials can be found on the ESD Learning Resources website or the Canvas Family Resources website.
The Canvas course was created to help new students navigate access to their first day of school online and will cover topics such as Gmail, Google Drive, Chromebook basics, Canvas/Clever (for Seesaw), Skyward, Edmonds Bookmarks, and Zoom. We are excited to share this with them and others who could benefit from it.
A special thank you to Sarah Schumacher and Kim Zimmerman from Meadowdale Middle, who partnered with us to develop these valuable resources!
Chromebook Updates
Our team recently came across a Chromebook update simulator. Feel free to use this to guide your students through updating their Chromebooks. The page features other Chromebook simulations that may also be useful for you and your students.
