Cliffwood School Parent Newsletter
February 2019
Principal's News
Dear Cliffwood School families,
We are halfway through the school year; time flies when you're having fun! The second marking period just ended and report cards will be posted on Monday, 2/11. Report cards are important but please do not let your child's grades be the sole indicator for how well they are doing in school. I encourage all parents/guardians to reach out to their child's teacher(s) regularly to learn about strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations for how you can help your child at home. These discussions can happen on the phone, via email, or through in-person meetings, and can yield much more information compared to a simple letter grade. Please try your best to stay involved in your child's learning, especially during these elementary years. When the school, its students, and their families all work together, that's when our learners make their greatest strides and we all can be CLIFFWOOD PROUD! Thanks and take care,
Congratulations to our Educators of the Year!
Recently, two of Cliffwood's educators were recognized for the great work they do each day. Mrs. Werner was named Teacher of the Year and Ms. Six was named Educational Services Professional of the Year. Thank you so much to all parents and staff who participated in the nomination and selection processes. These are two well-deserving recipients!
Join us for McTeachers Night!
Please, no more Pokemon cards in school
If a student does bring these cards to school, their teacher will give a verbal reminder and ask to put away. If this continues, the teacher will confiscate the cards and keep to end of the day; the teacher will also contact a parent/guardian. If a third offense, a parent/guardian will need to pick up the cards from the principal.
Thank you for your support!

Transportation survey
Parents, our district's transportation committee is seeking your input from the community as it prepares to make a recommendation to the Board of Education on revisions to the transportation policy. Please take a few moments to complete the survey which is linked below. This survey will close on Friday, February 8th. Thank you for sharing your input!

Parent/teacher conferences
Please mark your calendar for parent/teacher conferences which are coming in early March. Conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 5 (1/2 day for evening conferences) and Wednesday, March 6 (1/2 day for afternoon conferences). Note that both days are 1:20 dismissal. Sign-up for conferences will be done electronically (like the past few years) so please be on the lookout for this email and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions. We look forward to seeing you at conferences!
