Principal's News

Dear Cliffwood School families,

We are halfway through the school year; time flies when you're having fun! The second marking period just ended and report cards will be posted on Monday, 2/11. Report cards are important but please do not let your child's grades be the sole indicator for how well they are doing in school. I encourage all parents/guardians to reach out to their child's teacher(s) regularly to learn about strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations for how you can help your child at home. These discussions can happen on the phone, via email, or through in-person meetings, and can yield much more information compared to a simple letter grade. Please try your best to stay involved in your child's learning, especially during these elementary years. When the school, its students, and their families all work together, that's when our learners make their greatest strides and we all can be CLIFFWOOD PROUD! Thanks and take care,

Mark Van Horn, Principal

Congratulations to our Educators of the Year!

Recently, two of Cliffwood's educators were recognized for the great work they do each day. Mrs. Werner was named Teacher of the Year and Ms. Six was named Educational Services Professional of the Year. Thank you so much to all parents and staff who participated in the nomination and selection processes. These are two well-deserving recipients!

Join us for McTeachers Night!

Come out next Wednesday to support Cliffwood and a great cause! Our school is partnering with Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society to raise funds for cancer research. Our awesome teachers and staff will be working behind the counter at the McDonald's on route 34 in Aberdeen (not the McDonald's on 35 in Cliffwood) on Wednesday, February 13 from 5-8 p.m. Come out and join us for dinner! A portion of your bill will support our Cliffwood Proud team and go toward research. It was a great time last year and it should be even better this year. View more details below and we hope to see you there!

Please, no more Pokemon cards in school

Recently, Pokemon cards are causing too many conflicts between students. Students are arguing over these cards at lunch, on the bus, etc. Beginning immediately, these cards will not be allowed in school until further notice because of the distraction that they are causing. Homeroom teachers have already announced this message to their classes so students are aware.

If a student does bring these cards to school, their teacher will give a verbal reminder and ask to put away. If this continues, the teacher will confiscate the cards and keep to end of the day; the teacher will also contact a parent/guardian. If a third offense, a parent/guardian will need to pick up the cards from the principal.

Thank you for your support!

Random Acts of Kindness Week

Cliffwood celebrates being kind! This year, our school will be participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week from 2/19 to 2/22. Change to NJSLA (formerly PARCC) dates

Our grade 3 students will be participating in the NJSLA tests for Reading and Math (this replaces PARCC) and the dates are shown below. Here are the dates for testing:

NJSLA testing dates:

English Language Arts will be April 9-10

Math will be April 15-17

Star Student date for February

The next Star Student awards will be on Wednesday, 2/20, at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. January Star Students will be honored at that time. Continuing with our monthly themes, January honorees will be recognized for their PERSEVERANCE. See you then!

Dr. Seuss Week is coming soon

We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss/Read Across America during the week of February 25 to March 1. Please find the schedule below. On Friday, 3/1, several community members will be starring as guest readers in our classrooms too!
