Dear Landis Parents,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! This school year has definitely started differently than any other in our lifetime, but we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to help all of our students be successful. We realize that virtual learning is not the most optimal way for us to educate our students; however, it is currently the safest way to do so for your families and ours.
Please note that district leadership has already started discussing plans to gradually have students return to in-person learning on campus. In the next week or so, your child's homeroom teacher will reach out to you to discuss your child's first progress report grades. He/She will also ask you to make a decision regarding whether or not you want your child to continue learning virtually from home or to attend in-person learning at Landis when the time comes. Please start thinking about that decision now so you will be ready to provide your answer.
When we start bringing students back to in-person learning, not all students will start at the same time. We will have a phase-in process where certain grade levels/programs will start first and we will add additional grade levels over several weeks. Therefore, if you have more than one child at Landis in different grade levels, one may continue learning at home while the other one transitions back to campus. Our goal is to keep all of our staff, students and their families healthy during this time, so it is important that we bring back the students in this way.
Once the district has decided on the final schedule to transition back to campus, we will send it out to our parents. We realize that learning virtually is not easy, and it may cause a hardship for our parents who must work during the day, so we appreciate your understanding during this time. To stay informed on the latest Landis and Alief ISD updates, be sure to follow us on Facebook (Alief Landis Elementary School).
Sincerely,
Landis Administrators
