Self Care
- Write a note of appreciation or gratitude to someone else. Taking the time to stop and note something specific will make you and your recipient feel good!
- Share a meal with someone and don't talk about work. Whether it's a quick lunch break with colleagues or an after work/weekend meal with family or friends, take time to enjoy good food and good company!
- Try a guided meditation. The UCSD Center for Mindfulness has a variety of guided tools available, including the body scan that Christy led us through two weeks ago at Management.
- Get out in nature. Take time to enjoy the outside, whether it's just standing and letting the sunlight shine on you for 5-10 minutes, to meeting a friend for a walk, breathe in the fresh air!
- Make time for your hobbies. When we get busy and stressed out, we often forget to make time for the things we love. This may include reading a book for fun, going to a movie, planning a vacation, going to a concert (check out James' band!), listening to a new podcast, creating something, or enjoying time with family and friends.
Elena Aguilar's third book, Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators is an incredible month-to-month resource full of ideas to support your own SEL and that of your staff. If you haven't seen it, I encourage you to check it out. I read it when it first came out and I've been rereading it each month this year, reflecting on each month's habit and disposition. Her website is also full of resources.

Know My Story/ Know Our Story -- 5 Facts about Us
Carrie Lancon, Principal - Capri
- My family is everything to me and although my children are grown we are very close and look for any occasion to celebrate together. My oldest son Garrett is an accountant and lives in Orange County. My middle son, Max is a financial advisor and lives in Santa Cruz, and my daughter, Jane, is studying nursing at Johns’ Hopkins in Baltimore with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. My Father lives in Costa Rica and my mother lives in Rancho Bernardo.
- I was lucky enough to meet and marry my best friend, Jim. We have five children combined, and hope for grandchildren one day- apparently none of our five are in any hurry to settle down!
- I love the outdoors and anything to do with nature and animals. Camping and hiking are my favorite things to do and Jim is a pilot so we fly to many campgrounds and that adds to the adventure!
- I have owned twelve Golden Retrievers in my lifetime and used to breed them. I plan on starting that up again soon as my own children are excited to have a puppy from Maverick one day.
- The best day would start with good coffee, a long hike, lunch with a friend, an engaging book to read by the pool, and a healthy dinner prepared at home with Jim- life is good!
