Outreach Program Director/Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Tonasket Outreach Program
UNION EXEMPT: No
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
WORK DAYS: Full Time 5 days per Week (Extra days at the beginning and end of the year for director duties may be negotiable.)
The Tonasket Outreach Program is an innovative public school program serving families in the surrounding communities who want an alternative to traditional public education for their children. The program provides personalized educational programming for grades 1-12, where Outreach staff work closely with the students and their families to provide engaging group and tutoring learning opportunities at school, and also at home. The Outreach staff works in a collaborative fashion, where everyone is respected and supported, and where creativity and initiative are encouraged.
PROGRAM DIRECTOR DUTIES:
- Provides general program support and oversight for all Outreach students, grades 1-12, families and staff;
- Initiates and works collaboratively with staff to develop on-campus schedules;
- Initiates and facilitates regularly scheduled staff meetings at least twice a month;
- Works closely with Elementary, Middle, and High School building administrators and counselors, and attends Child Study Team meetings when needed;
- Works closely with the program secretary regarding the program budget, ordering of supplies, and confirms student attendance with regards to monthly FTE and student count;
- Works with certificated staff to help determine appropriate student caseloads and student-teacher ratios;
- Attends selected Alternative Learning conferences and other professional development opportunities to keep abreast of current and changing regulations;
- Works with staff to prepare students for state testing, and develops workable testing schedules;
- Works with staff to sustain a positive learning environment; addresses any student discipline issues;
- Works with secretary and staff to be prepared for audits and provides oversight of student files;
- Works with staff, administrators and the district office to plan and carry out field trips related to learning goals;
- Seeks out and nurtures community connections, best educational practices, and experiential education opportunities;
- Keeps Outreach families, students, and other stakeholders up to date with program activities and needs;
- Maintains regular monthly communication with the district superintendent and office personnel;
- Incorporates the strengths, interests and passions of students, staff and families in the educational design process.
TEACHER DUTIES:
- Duties for this position would be wide-ranging, focused on students grades 6-12;
- The teacher would work closely and collaboratively with the other certificated teachers in the program with direction from the program director;
- The teacher would provide one on one tutoring, and design and implement small group educational activities in the major subject areas, aligned with state goals and individual student needs;
- The teacher would be encouraged to teach and share elective, technical and artistic skills;
- The teacher would provide activity supervision during school days and meet with families to develop and maintain student learning plans, provide curriculum, monitor attendance and progress, provide regular feedback to parents, provide assessment opportunities and maintain records;
- Duties would also include providing direction for our paraprofessionals in their work with students;
- Participation in regular staff meetings, selected field trips and professional development opportunities would be encouraged;
- The teacher would utilize both adopted and personally developed curriculum to address learning standards and individual student needs;
- The teacher would perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Must have valid Washington State certification with Middle School and High School endorsements.
MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.
