Compromise of 1850

  • was a package of five bills, passed in September of 1850
  • Texas surrendered New Mexico and all of it's land north of the 3630 line
  • California became a free state but did not get split into two states Henry Clay's Bills
  • Senator Stephen A. Douglass separated Henry Clay's bill into several and passed each of them separately
