The Postwar Boom
In the 1950's people had less work to do around the house because of all the great technology which gave citizens more leisure time. The increased leisure time gave football, basketball and baseball more fans and also helped fill the new Dodgers Stadium (below). Also many Americans took up golfing, hunting, fishing, boating and bowling. This increased leisure time created modern day sports which took the U.S. by storm and to we are still watching these sports that boomed after WWll.
In the 1950's U.S. citizens had ample leisure time and many chose to read. Cooking, do-it-yourself, religion and homemaking books were very popular and comics book sales reached an all time high. This increase in reading was significant because it led to higher education in the U.S.
