Class Picture Day!

Mark your calendars! Class picture day at Mendenhall is Friday, April 15, 2016. Order forms for class pictures whet home in your child's Wednesday folder. Remember to dress nice and bring your best smile.

Mendenhall Senior Reunion

Our Mendenhall Class of 2016 Senior Reunion will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 4:30pm in the Mendenhall Library. If you know of any 2009 fifth grade Longhorns please invite them to attend this reception in their honor.

Parent Engagement Survey

Please take a moment to complete the below Parent Engagement Survey. The information we collect will help us evaluate the relationship between parents and our school. We are always looking for ways to improve the home-school connection.

There are many ways in which parents may be involved in the education of their child. Extensive research has shown that activities such as reading and communicating with the child and setting expectations have the largest effect on student achievement. Other forms of parental involvement, such as attendance and participation in school functions, also contribute positively to achievement in school.

This Parental Engagement Survey will help us understand some of the ways in which parents are engaged in the education of their child. This information will guide us in providing support to the parents in our community.

With the 2015-2016 school year in mind, please take a moment to answer this brief survey. Thank you for your participation.

Rotary Club - Citizens of the Year Nominations

Parents of 4th and 5th grade students, the Plano Rotary Club Citizen of the Year program is around the corner and nomination forms are due by April 28th. Current 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to apply for this special recognition by completing a nomination form available from your child's teacher. Students may have help from parents or teachers with the application, but it should be in the student’s own writing and they should focus on sharing their school environment in how it relates to others. The six character traits are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Community service outside of school can be highlighted too. We appreciate the Plano Rotary Club for providing our campus with the opportunity to participate in the Citizen of the Year Banquet showcasing our students.

The Plano Rotary Club Citizen of the Year Banquet will be hosted on Wednesday, May 25, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn, located at 15th Street and Central Expressway in Plano. This banquet will honor our campus and one boy and one girl from the 4th and 5th grades. The Citizens of the Year will be selected based upon the submitted nomination forms. Nomination forms are available from your child's teacher.

PTA Needs You!!

Please let us know if you are interested in being on the Mendenhall PTA board next year. This is a fun and interactive way to get involved in your child's school. There is a position for everyone and very little time is needed. If you are interested, complete the form below and return to the front office.

2016 Bond Information Meetings to be Hosted by Superintendent at Six High Schools this Spring

Plano ISD community members are invited to attend any of six information meetings to be hosted this spring about the district’s May 7 bond election proposal. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Binggeli will present information and answer questions. Meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the district’s high schools on the following dates:

  • March 28 (Monday) - Williams High School (auditorium), 1717 17th Street, Plano, TX 75074
  • April 4 (Monday) - Clark High School (library), 523 Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75023
  • April 6 (Wednesday) - McMillen High School (cafeteria), 750 N. Murphy Road, Murphy, TX 75094

About the May 7 Bond Election
On May 7, Collin County voters residing within the Plano ISD attendance zone will be asked to consider a single proposition to provide $481 million toward eight major project areas with no increase to the tax rate. If approved, all Plano ISD campuses will be impacted by district-wide security updates, renovations and facility upgrades, as well as technology improvements. Visit for more information.

Revised Dates for 2016-2017 School Calendar

The 2016-2017 district instructional calendar adopted at the February 2 school board meeting has been revised to reflect a new date for spring break, March 6th - 10th. The district wanted to promptly notify you of this change so that you can be sure to update your calendars. The full 2016-17 calendar is published on the district website at:

The Plano ISD Parent Portal is your key to staying connected and up-to-date on your child's progress. On Parent Portal, you can:

  • View your child's grades and attendance
  • Update your Emergency Form - phone numbers and emergency contacts
  • Get a copy of your child's immunizations

Transfer day is Monday, April 18th beginning at 7:45am at the PISD Administration Building. The online transfer numbering system will open on April 11th at 6:30am. Additional information in included on the flyers below.

Plano HS Theatre Camp for Elementary Students

The Plano Senior HS Wildcat Theatre department is offering the third annual summer theatre workshop for elementary students June 6-9, 2016. Students having just completed Grades 2nd through 5th are encouraged to attend. Theatre subjects such as acting, mime, mask making, make-up, improvisation, musical theatre and production will be taught by high school theatre students under the direction of professional theatre personnel Lance Morse and Cassidy McQuiston. Classes will be taught in the Doyle Dean Performing Arts Center on the PSHS campus. This year’s hours have been extended to 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., to better serve parents’ schedules. We hope to see lots of young performers!

Drug And Alcohol Prevention: DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know approximately 25,00 people overdosed and died from prescription drugs in 2014? You can help keep unused and expired prescriptions from being abused. The DEA holds a drug “take back” day where you simply bring any unused or expired medications to a site and drop it off. It is FREE and it is EASY to do! On April 30, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, you can stop by any collection site nearest you and drop off your medications. There will be sites at PSHS, PESH, PWSH and Clark schools this year. I have included the website if you need a site closer to home.

Please consider cleaning out your medicine cabinets and help us fight the battle of prescription drug abuse. Together, we can make a difference!

Plano Providing Free Wi-Fi

The City of Plano has announced that it will provide free public Wi-Fi at city parks and recreation centers, both indoor and outdoor for everyone at no cost to taxpayers. This is a great way for our students and families to access the internet for educational programs and applications. In outdoor locations the free service is called Oh, Ranger! Wi-Fi. At indoor locations, you can gain access to the free service by selecting the TIme Warner Cable hot spot in the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device.
