The Waldron Weekly ‘22-'23

Principal's Update

Dear Anasazi Families,

A few reminders as we continue to implement the drop off and pick-up routines:

  • Walkers/parkers need to meet their students by the playground gate and NOT by the car drive-thru pickup spots.
  • If in the drive through, right lane, you must remain in your vehicle at all times. You can't park and leave the car, get out to help your child or retrieve something from the trunk. This is for safety purposes. Staff is stationed all around to help. Have backpacks, water bottles and other items ready to go. Please continue to pull forward as you pick up to help with the movement of the line.
  • Parking can be found on the street or in parking spots not assigned to staff.
  • The gates close at 8:40 and class begins at 8:45. If you arrive and the gates are closed, you will need to park and sign your child in the front office.
  • In the afternoon please have your name placard visible to ensure a smooth pickup line. These went home this Friday.
  • All parkers and walkers need to use the crosswalk that is painted in front of the front office.
  • SLOW DOWN and adhere to the school zone speed please.

I will be sending weekly newsletters to families. Even if you do not read them, please do not unsubscribe from SUSD emails. In the case of an emergency, email blasts are used to send important information. Also, please remember that Peachjar emails are digital flyers sent from Anasazi and SUSD.

Here's to a great 2022-23!

Serving your children,

Ms. Jennifer Waldron

Principal

Anasazi Elementary School

SUSD's 2022-2023 Calendar

  • Name placards are going home today for your vehicle. Please place these in the front window/visor of your car on the passenger side. They are a must when picking up by car. The placards are used for safety and efficiency purposes. Also, please continue to pull forward as you pick up to help with the movement of the line.

  • Health History forms are going home on Friday and are to be returned to the teachers on Monday Aug. 9th. We require one from each student every year.

  • Please read the Anasazi Family Handbook attached below.

Anasazi Upcoming Events

Monday, 8/9 - Secure Campus in Effect

At Scottsdale Unified School District, the safety of students and staff is a top priority. All of

our campuses are secure facilities and implement a gate-to-gate philosophy. This

includes, among other things, following visitor identification procedures, closely

monitoring all access points to the campus, requiring all visitors to show photo ID, etc.

Under the gate to gate concept, Anasazi will remain closed until 8:20. At that time,

staff will open the gates and welcome students ONLY onto the school grounds where they will be supervised.

Tuesday, 8/10 - Java with Jen CANCELLED

Ms. Waldron will need to reschedule the 9:30-10:30 Java with Jen (Monthly Principal/Parent Office Hours). More information coming soon.

Reminders from Nurse Renee

IB Corner

Welcome to our 2022-23 school year! We are excited to have many new families join our learning community.

Anasazi Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidate school. This means that we are working towards our full authorization.

This year we are happy to announce that students will be fully immersed in the PYP class experience and will be completing several inquiry based units of study. During Curriculum Night, you are invited to attend an IB PYP information session, which will outline this program in more detail. We hope to see you there!

Meet our IB PYP Coordinator

Sara Armstrong began working at Anasazi Elementary School in the fall of 2020. She is an experienced IB educator and accreditation coordinator. Ms. Armstrong is originally from Michigan but lived in Sweden for 14 years with her Swedish husband and daughter. During that time, she worked at an IB accredited international school where she taught in the PYP and with MYP learning support. She also served as the school’s Council of International Schools accreditation coordinator.

Ms. Armstrong has said “ I am thrilled to be working at Anasazi Elementary and I am honored to be a part of this IB Journey!”

If you have any questions about the IB PYP please do not hesitate to contact her at sarmstrong@susd.org.
