The Husky Update April 18, 2022
News for our Highline Community Elementary School
From Principal Sanchez-Hart
I want to give a big THANK YOU to our many families who attend our PASS meeting in late March. Mrs. Quintana lead our parent groups in analyzing our school's reading, math, and discipline data. It was both informative for all, but more importantly many good questions were asked by our families. Several families would like to see more homework practice, especially in math. They also asked about more information regarding writing and needing data about our student's growth. All parents agreed that they wanted to do more to help improve the growth for our students in all areas across the board. Our parents' feedback helps our students thrive at school, and we hope you can join us at our last one of the school year on April 28th.
Next, here are a few reminders to families about two important events coming up! Check your student's backpack for graded work, finished art projects, updated books, and flyers about the following events.
Specials and Wellness Night - Tuesday, April 26 from 5:00-6:30 pm
This will be an interactive night to celebrate the learning we are doing in Specials as well as practice wellness as a family! We hope you can join us! See the flyer below.
Strengthening Family Coping Resources - Wednesdays Virtually or Thursdays In Person
Please check out the flyer below for this great opportunity to work with other families in our school. The registration form is linked to the flyer!
Finally I want to make our families aware of a disturbing trend in social media targeting our youngest viewers with a character called Huggy Wuggy. While at first glance it seems innocent, the show Poppy Playtime is violent and nightmarish and is NOT meant for young viewers. This message is to help urge our parents and guardians to be aware of what our kids are viewing on social media.
As always, I appreciate talking and connecting with each and everyone of our students and families. If you ever have ideas, questions, or concerns, please know that my door is open. Share your story; Power your potential!
Sincerely,
Diana
