GLENDALE ELEMENTARY SEPTEMBER NEWS
#FOLLOWYOURDREAMS
WELCOME BACK & HAPPY FALL!
Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a fun-filled summer! I am excited to see all of the students walking through the door this fall. I've missed them and can't wait to see their smiling faces!
Our building theme this year is "FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS" and as always, our school-wide expectations are:
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
By now you should have received an email asking you to log into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal so you can view who your child's 2022-23 classroom teacher is. We also shared a link to sign up for Welcome Assessment Days (Sept 6th & 7th) through PTCFast Conference Scheduler. If you need assistance with Infinite Campus, please contact the IT Help Desk or call 952-226-0048. The Glendale Office cannot reset passwords.
Now that class lists have been shared, no changes can be made. We have a thorough class list process and we take into account a variety of student grouping factors including gender, ability levels, social relationships, parent input and special program considerations when we place students. Any changes now will create morale issues amongst faculty, but it will ultimately lead to classrooms that are ‘imbalanced’ in a variety of areas. I trust our process and I believe your children will have a great year no matter which classroom they are in. Thank you for understanding and trusting our process as well.
I am looking forward to a year filled with laughter, learning, collaboration, and supporting one another in all that we do.
Jennifer Molitor
Glendale Elementary School Principal

SAFE LEARNING PLAN
Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools is committed to providing safe and healthy in-person instruction for all students while continuing to address the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the district's Safe Learning Plan, click here.
IMPORTANT PARENT FORMS
1. STUDENT TRANSPORTATION PLAN- Getting students to their after school destination is one of the most important school logistical planning items. For that reason, we ask that parents follow the link to inform the school what the "Student Transportation Plan" is for their student(s) by Wednesday, September 7th.
2. PARENTAL RELEASE FORM- This will give your student(s) permission to participate in off-campus events within walkable distance with the classroom teacher (nature walks, city play fields, etc). You will also need to sign an agreement that you and your student(s) have reviewed the 2022-23 parent/student handbook (found on our website) containing information on district and building rules, policies, procedures and expectations.
3. ANNUAL INFINITE CAMPUS UPDATE- We are asking all parents of current students to complete the Annual Update in Infinite Campus before the first day of school. This update will only take about five minutes. ** If your child has not yet attended school at PLSAS, you do not need to complete this update.**
The information in Infinite Campus is used in the event of an emergency and to communicate with you about important events, including school closures.
· You will be asked to review and update the following information:
· Parent contact information— phone, email, mailing address
· Emergency contact(s)
· Household information
· Health information— conditions and medications
· Free and reduced-price meal applications
Instructions:
1.) Log into Campus Parent in Infinite Campus on a computer
**the update cannot be completed on a mobile device**
2.) Click “More” in the left navigation menu
3.) Click “Online Registration” in the bottom-middle of the page
For families already enrolled, "Online Registration" means updating or confirming all information in our system
4.) Select “Click here to go to Annual Update”
5.) Click “Begin Registration” and follow the steps to verify or update all information.
Click here for annual update instructions with screenshots.
**You must verify or update all fields for each student in order to submit the update.
If you have questions about the Annual Update, or if you have never logged in to Infinite Campus, please contact Lynn Wieczorek, Data Systems Specialist at 952-226-0062 or lwieczorek@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us
If you have any questions in regards to these forms, please feel free to call the Glendale Office at 952-226-0200.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Thank you for your efforts to ensure your child comes to school each day ready to learn. It is this partnership, between families and the school, that provides the best learning and school experiences for children. Research shows that absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half of the students who miss 2-4 days in September will go on to miss nearly a month of school.
CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES
In June, the federally funded waivers enacted during the pandemic providing free meals for all students ended. Meal prices for all grade levels will remain the same as they were pre-pandemic and are located on our website here.
Students will begin using their PIN numbers once again, these PIN numbers are located in School Cafe and in Infinite Campus, all accessible in the Parent Portal on our website here.
The child nutrition section of our website, on the SchoolCafe page, has very detailed information on how parents can set up school cafe accounts, add money to their student's accounts, fill out FRL forms, etc.. Student PIN numbers are located under their student's name in SchoolCafe by clicking on the barcode.
SchoolCafe section on website:
https://www.priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us/about-us/departments/child-nutrition/schoolcafe
*NOTE: In order to qualify for free and reduced price meals an Application for Educational Benefits must be filled out yearly and is also located on our website and in the School Cafe app.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
As we start back to school this year, we wanted to remind everyone of our arrival & dismissal procedures. We appreciate your continued patience as we work through all of the new guidelines to keep our students and staff safe.
MORNING ARRIVAL:
All K-5 students that are dropped off or walk, should go to the lower level doors. No students may be dropped off before 9:00 am. Kid’s Co. is available for families that need supervision before 9:00. You will need to register your student with Kid’s Co. At 9:00 the doors will open and an adult will greet students. Please
Buses drop students off on the upper level parking lot. For students that are arriving late after 9:20am, parents will need to park in the upper parking lot and accompany their student in to the main entrance to sign them in for the day. The lower level doors will be locked at 9:20am.
END OF DAY DISMISSAL:
Buses will pick up students in the upper level parking lot. All K-5 students that are picked up or walk will be in the lower level parking lot.
PICK UP IN CAR LINE: Please have your sign ready & visible in the window until your student(s) is in the car. When arriving in the parking lot, always stay to the right and form only one line- please follow the arrows and stay inside the painted pick up lane.
STUDENTS BEING BUCKLED IN CARSEATS: Please have your car seat on the right passenger side for easy access to the sidewalk. Once your child gets in the car, we ask that you please pull to our "Buckle Zone" marked with BLUE cones near the lower level exit/stop sign to assist them in order to keep the line moving.
**Please check out our short video of instructions on Drop Off & Pick Up procedures below.
Kids Co. is available if you need care for your student after 4:00pm. If there is an emergency and you are going to be late, please notify the office and your student will be waiting in the front office. You will need to come in and sign them out.
If you have any questions, feel free to call the main office at 952.226.0200. If needed, the Kids Company phone number is 952.226.0090. Again, our main goal is to have a safe process to get our valuable students here and back home every day. Thank you for your cooperation!
PARENT GUIDE TO PBIS & WHAT TO EXPECT AT GLENDALE
MEALS FOR GLEN
Hello Wonderful Glendale Families!
Glen, a tiger salamander, is one of our pets at Glendale. Glen is an easy pet to care for, however, we will need some help with the donation of crickets. Fifteen - twenty-four crickets would be a typical meal to last the week. We are looking for families to donate this meal every Monday or Tuesday. If you are able to help, please sign up! You can bring your "meal" to the office or to Mrs. Hanstad's classroom 109, and our Junior Naturalists along with your child will feed our school pet!
Thank you in advance for all of your support and donations!
Please use this link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DABAD23AAF49-meals
LEGACY BOOK CLUB
Glendale is excited to be offering the Legacy Book Club. This is a positive way for your child to give a unique gift to everyone at Glendale Elementary while celebrating a special day in their lives. The legacy book can be for a birthday, an honor for someone special, or for whatever occasion you would like to celebrate.
If you are interested, please go to Glendale Media’s Amazon wish list link below:
You can have the book sent right to Glendale or have it sent to your house and your child can deliver it themselves. The child’s name will be featured on a special bookplate in the front of the book. Your child will have the option to be the first to check out his/her legacy book and when they have finished reading please return it to the Media Center for everyone else to enjoy.
We hope you enjoy this way of celebrating your child’s special day or person and at the same time helping our Media Center book collection grow.
Thank you,
Lia Theis
Media Specialist
