Roxbury Township Public Schools
K-5 Summer Math & Reading Assignments
Beat The Summer Slide
According to the authors of a report from the National Summer Learning Association: "A conservative estimate of lost instructional time is approximately two months or roughly 22 percent of the school year.... It's common for teachers to spend at least a month re-teaching material that students have forgotten over the summer. That month of re-teaching eliminates a month that could have been spent on teaching new information and skills." Engaging in fun summer activities for reading, writing, and math will help our students continue to grow and avoid the summer slide.
Students Exiting Kindergarten-3rd Grade (Entering 1st-4th)
Roxbury students exiting Kindergarten - 3rd Grade will be asked to keep a summer journal and time log of their fun reading, writing and math activities that they choose to engage in throughout the summer. This log and journal will be submitted to their new teacher and raffle tickets will be earned for every 30 minutes. Raffle tickets can then be entered for a chance to win fun reading, writing, and math items to take home. Every student that reaches 6 hours in Math and 6 hours in ELA will receive a certificate of accomplishment. Click the following links for the log and lists of suggested activities, games, and books for each grade. A great way to make your efforts work for both subjects would be to read books about math!
