Big Thank You
Also, a huge shout-out to Natosha Richardson for shifting her entire ELA block to accommodate readers from another grade level in a guided reading group! This is just one example of how we do whatever it takes to meet the needs of students.
Finally, thank you to Ms. Bailey. Today, she wasn't 100% sure where a K walker was going (who had older siblings) so she walked with him. When his older siblings went ahead, she began knocking on doors in the apartment complex to find this student's home. When this didn't work, she brought the student back to school (via piggy-back ride because his Kindergarten legs were just too tired) and asked to be part of the conference with the parent to try and get some of the dismissal confusion worked out! Way to go Ms. Bailey! You continually show others why Ebinport Staff SHINES!
These are just a few examples of why we are all so proud to call Ebinport our home! Thank you so much for making this a place where we love to come each day! You are all amazing. I am so grateful to get the privilege to work with you each day! Thank you for challenging me and for making me a better administrator, mom and human being!
The Gifted Learner Course
If you are in taking the Nature and Needs of the Gifted Learner course that will be offered by Winthrop and taught by Dr. Jaworowski please let Joya Holmes . We just received approval for the course, so the turn around time must be very quick. The course will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5th, and the fee per participant is $110. Please send the names of interested teachers, and I will send them the syllabus and registration form.
Science Benchmark Dates: Please mark these dates on your calendar.
Please see the science benchmark testing windows for K-3rd and 5th grade below.
1st Quarter: Oct. 10-18
2nd Quarter: Dec. 11-21
3rd Quarter: Mar. 5-16
4th Quarter: May 14-23
Please see the Science benchmark testing windows for 4th grade below.
1st Quarter: Sept. 25 - Oct. 6
2nd Quarter: Nov. 20 - Dec. 8
3rd Quarter: Feb. 20 - Mar. 2
4th Quarter: April 9- 20
This year, 5K will test holistically through an on-screen presentation shared with each teacher. Teachers will assess students as a group and will report areas of needed improvement.
1st and 2nd grade will test on paper. Copies will be sent to each school.
3rd -5th grade will test in Canvas. Once the benchmark courses are created, teachers and students will automatically populate each course.
4th grade will be the only elementary grade-level tested on SCPASS, therefore, 5th grade may follow the same testing schedule as K-3rd. 4th grade will need to teach each unit in approximately 7-weeks in order to for there to be time to review prior to SCPASS.
RAZ Kids and Moby Max Update from Mrs. Schifferle
I have MobyMax set up for each class and have passed out the parent letters and login cards to the teachers. I have not gotten Kindergarten entered at this time and will work on them next. It will take me a little longer to get RAZ Kids set up. It takes a few more steps to move the students up to their next grade.

Healthy Snacks and Snacks in Classrooms: From Nurse Cranford
I know there has been much confusion regarding snacks in the classroom. I spoke with Sadie Kirell and the district will not be coming out with an approved snack list for classes. The district will only come out with a list of acceptable items for a school wide celebration.
For the classroom: If you know you have a food allergy in your class,
- please avoid that particular food as a classroom snack. ex.-peanut or tree nuts.
- wipe down tables
- children wash hands
When sending home weekly letter -may suggest to parents: If you are sending a classroom snack or snack for your child , please be mindful of of our children with allergies specifically :_____________________________________________. There are no food restrictions at lunch since the cafeteria is an open area. Thank you for your favorable consideration.
------ I hope this will help all of us. š. I will be getting an updated list of children with health issues this week- ( from parents who registered on line)-I will let you know this info ASAP. Thanks for your hard work to keep our children safe.
A reminder that we cannot have a list of safe snacks, but we will develop a list of healthy snacks that parents may choose to send pending consideration of children with food allergies in the classroom. A safe snack list cannot be provided because ingredients may change or the manufacturing plant may change their guidelines and begin processing foods with tree nuts or peanuts.
Red Emergency Bag Clarification
Only one teacher on each grade level will need to take their red bag out for recess. Please feel free to rotate times or if one person would like to have the responsibility to always bring out the red bag that is fine too.
ESOL Update
Staff (all, including assistants)
Please view this Powerpoint (Click HERE) regarding ESOL placement, services, and other information. Please see Zulmarie or Diane to sign off that you have indeed watched the video.
Some information may have changed slightly but with this being an audit year we need to touch base with the staff early!! If you have questions about anything please don't hesitate to ask!!! If we don't have the answer we will find it for you! New teachers, if you will talk with a teammate about the translation services. We will do a refresher at a later point, probably in September.
We hope that all of you have a great school year and we look forward to working with you and your wonderful ESOL students.

Attendance Information
Per Dr. Kokolis and Attendance Office:
āThe United States Department of Educationās Office of Civil Rights (OCR) defines an āabsent studentā as one who doesnāt attend 50% of the instructional day.ā
In the past, our elementary schools, if a student came to school for even a short time and left school, the student was counted as being present for all day.
Under the new law our elementary schools, if students do not attend 50% of the school day, the student should show an all-day absent.
