Ghana Orphanage Mission
September - December
Starting September 1st, 2016, I will be spending the following 12 weeks in the Greater Accra region in Ghana, Africa. I will be working at an orphanage near Accra, Ghana. I will be doing childcare work in an orphanage. While there, my weekdays will start at 5:30am at the orphanage I am placed in. I will help wake the children, bathe them, feed them and then walk them to school. When the children are at school, I will return to the orphanage to help with laundry, cooking, and other tasks that need to be done. Once the children return from school I will help with their homework, teach Basic English lessons, and play with them. Evenings lead to feeding them dinner, and putting them to bed.
I have spent the last 5 years working for the Boys & Girls Club of Saint Helena, and am currently the Athletic Director there. Because of my work with BGC, I know I will be able to make a difference in the children’s lives in Ghana. This trip is something that is very far outside of my comfort zone. I have never spent any time in a foreign country and not knowing anyone before hand. I will be staying with other volunteers in a house with limited electricity, limited running water, and very basic amenities. I am somewhat nervous about this trip, but I know that the work I will be doing there will be worth spending three months living basically.
But I need YOUR help making this all happen! The money I am fundraising will cover the program fees, my flights, medication/vaccinations I will need, travelers insurance, as well as money that I will use to help the orphanage in any way I can. Once in Ghana, I will know what the orphanage needs, whether its art supplies or books, or materials to fix different parts of the facility.
Thank you so much for reading this, and donating if you choose to. The money you donate is going to allow me to do some really amazing things and allow me to make a difference in the lives of the children I will be working with for the three months I am there.
