Hubbard Woods Update
May 31, 2022
Principal Update:
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
How is it already the last day of May? I hope that you were all able to enjoy the summer-like weather this weekend. I had my youngest graduate from New Trier. It is unbelievable that my kids are so old! The best advice I can give you is to enjoy your little loves and don't sweat the small stuff.
Spring brings lots of excitement and some nervous energy in these last weeks of school. We shift out of our typical routine as we prepare for our spring events. These are great fun but can also throw us off of our game a bit. Don't be surprised if your child begins to share feelings about being sad about leaving their teachers, etc. It is essential to validate those feelings and then share excitement for the coming milestones. I relate it to being both happy and sad when I finished reading a Harry Potter book and then looked forward to the next one coming out. All feelings are ok. Our job is to help our children develop strategies so they can cope with whatever emotions they may be feeling. We also know that last week's event in Texas has impacted each of us differently. Please reach out if you need some additional support from us here at HW.
Thank you for your continued collaboration throughout this year. I look forward to seeing you all at the Spring Thing!
Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody
SPRING THING, 2022
Our year in the music classroom has had one overarching theme: Re-engage our school as an ensemble of artistic, creative, collaborative thinkers through exploration after a year of "Zooming the Arts." The Spring Thing is a culmination of an entire year where we followed kids' interests/passions, got excited, got messy, got frustrated, got reflective, got joyful...you name it, we felt it, and it all brought us closer together as we strive to be "the heart of the neighborhood."
A List For You:
• Come for as long as you can. Our Kindergarteners would love some support at 5:30, just as our 4th graders will at 7:00!
• Be comfortable. We do not have specific attire as this is an outdoor festival.
• BYOBlanket/Chair
• There will be no printed programs tomorrow, but there will be QR codes for you to learn about how we went from "sing" to "thing," how kids composed their own original melodies, improvised their own riffs, created their own electronic music, wrote verses, etc.
• Time Tweaks (just a little change from previous posts)
5:30-5:40 - Kindergarten on stage
5:40-6:00 - Art Gallery, DJ Booth, 2nd Grade Store
6:00-6:10 - 1st Grade
6:10-6:20 - 2nd Grade
6:20-6:40 - Art Gallery, DJ Booth, 2nd Grade Store

So, it's now time to sign up for 5th grade orchestra and beginning strings at Skokie School for the 2022-2023 school year.
Please explore the Skokie School Fifth grade Orchestra/Beginning strings page on the district website where you will see your teachers demonstrating the violin, viola, cello, and bass.
Below you will find a link to the online registration form that must be submitted by June 10th in order to ensure a spot for your child in the program.
Both orchestra students (4th graders currently in the strings program) and beginners (NOT too late to start a string instrument!) need to submit a registration form to enroll in the program for the 2022-2023 school year.
Please contact Sheryl Nussbaum
(sherylnussbaum@winnetka36.og) if you have any questions.
