Substitute Teacher & Tutor Training

March 24 & 25 and September 9 & 10, 2020

The W-FL BOCES Substitute Registry and Home Tutoring Service offers training to perspective substitutes and/or tutors (it is possible to do both!) who wish to work within our four-county region. (Substitutes are hired directly by the school district, therefore, the qualifications and application process for that district must be followed. However, tutors are hired by W-FL BOCES and are assigned by the Tutoring Office.)

Qualifications for Substitutes and Tutors

Qualifications for school substitutes vary across the region from a high school diploma to college credit and/or a degree or certification (see the specific school district's website to verify qualifications). Becoming a tutor requires a minimum of 2 years of college.

Those intending to tutor in the region will have the opportunity to fill out the application at the training and begin the hiring process.

For those interested in substitute work only, attendance does not guarantee a job, but should increase your confidence and your chances in obtaining substitute work. It is recommended that you include a copy of your two-day training completion certificate provided at the end of the training with your applications to school districts.
