Schedule Card Due Dates and Meeting with Counselor to Review Schedule
- Please input your course selections from your scheduling card in StudentVUE before or by February 5th. The online input portal closes at 11:59PM on February 5th.
- Please turn in your completed scheduling card to the counseling office on or before February 6th.
- Please go to the counseling office if you have questions.
Read, consult, and ask questions before selecting classes!

Box A- Required Core Classes
Graduation Requirement, Sophomore Year English
Should I take Honors LA 10?
- You completed Honors LA 9 with a B or higher and did well and would like to continue the honors level of rigor and challenge.
- You were a strong student in LA 9, earned high marks (consistent As) on your essays/writing assignments, and you are looking for more of a challenge.
- Please consult with your first semester Language Arts 9 teacher if you are interested in Honors LA 10.
- There will be summer homework.
Graduation Requirement, Sophomore Year Social Studies
Select either US History or AP US History
- Most sophomores will take standard level US History
- AP US History is very challenging. Consult with your first semester World History/Big History teacher if you are considering the course. This is a college level US History course that includes college level reading, writing, problem solving and critical thinking.
Graduation Requirement, Sophomore Year Science
If you are concurrently in Physical Science and Biology, then choose either Chemistry or Physics. Remember, it is strongly recommended that you have completed Algebra 2 or will be taking it concurrently with either of these courses.
Graduation Requirement, Sophomore Year Math
- Write your current math class AND letter grade on the line.
- Select the next course in your math sequence.
- If you are currently in an Honors class and it's going well, we encourage you to choose the next Honors class in sequence.
- If you are currently in an Honors class, doing your best, and it's not going as well as you had hoped, you may want to consider the regular track math class for next year.
- If you are currently in the regular track math class, getting As on all of your assessments (checkpoints, quizzes & tests) and you are looking for more of a challenge, speak to your 1st semester math teacher about moving into the Honors track for next year.
- Regardless of your situation, a discussion with your 1st semester math teacher is recommended.
General AP Important Course Details to Support Scheduling Decisions
- AP courses are college level curriculum taught in high school. It is a national curriculum set forth by College Board.
- Consider an AP class in an area you have an strong interest in and are passionate about.
- Some AP classes have pre-requisites so make sure you check you've had the proper instruction prior.
- Investigate the AP course outline on the collegeboard.org website to gather a deeper understanding of what you will be studying and learning.
- AP courses are preparing you for an AP exam in May.
- Depending on each college's AP guidelines and your AP exam score (1 to 5); there is some potential for college credit to be earned.
- AP classes will require time outside of school to study. Please make sure you balance your schedule leaving enough time to study for all your classes, keep up with your outside of school commitment and take of yourself.
AP Courses CANNOT be dropped after the last day of school, during the summer or at registration so please consider carefully.
Box B
Graduation Requirement- World Language
- You need two years of the same World Language to graduate*
- If you haven't started this requirement, you should strongly consider doing so next year.
- Please circle the level of language you will be taking NEXT YEAR.
- If you are doing well in your world language, it is recommended to continue. Colleges view world language courses as a core class.
- Selective colleges encourage four years of the SAME language.
*flex option is available if you are unable to meet the 2nd year requirement. See counselor for more information

Other Requirements & Electives
- Pick your electives from the 10th Grade Course Offerings sheet and write them in Box C.
- If you still need to complete your world language requirement, your electives in Box C should only add up to 2 semesters.
- If you are NOT selecting a world language course next year, Box C should total 4 semesters.
- Look at the course offerings list to see your options.
- Do your research, consult with your teachers, and choose wisely!
Graduation Requirement- Physical Education and Health
1.0 credit of Physical Education and Health is required for graduation.
Option 1: One semester of Physical Education and one semester of Health
Option 2: Flex out – Participating in 2 seasons of a Rochester Community Schools approved MHSAA Sport or Marching Band is equivalent to one semester of a PE class. This leaves you with one semester of Health to take at Stoney Creek.
If you are interested in flexing out, PE flex forms are available in the counseling office. They must be verified and signed by your coach, athletic director, or athletic secretary. Flex forms should be turned back into counseling after the second season of your sport. Do NOT wait until your senior year to do this. If you've already completed two seasons of MHSAA approved sports, please complete this form ASAP. Senior spring sports are not considered an eligible season for the flex form.
Please note that there is no swimming in any of the PE classes.

After Mrs. Millard receives the applications and completes the interviews, counselors will receive a list of student. If you are a returning Yearbook student, Mrs. Millard will sign your schedule card. Do not include yearbook on your course selections.

Student Council
Placement on Student Council requires an application process consisting of a written essay, school vote (incoming 10-12 only), a questionnaire, interview, and teacher recommendations. Applications are available in the Spring and their availability will be announced during the morning announcements. Please do not put Student Council on your schedule as it will take up an elective spot, schedule adjustments will be made after council selection is completed. See Ms. Antrup in C262 if you have questions.

Alternate Electives
- You must include four Alternative Elective Choices in Box E
- You need alternatives for your elective courses in case your electives do not fit into your schedule.
- Select alternative courses you will enjoy. They may be in your schedule next year.
- If you don't put any alternate electives, counselors will place you in any random available class.

Oakland Schools Technical Campus Programs for Juniors & Seniors
OSTC seeks students who want to get a head start on their careers. These are 2 year programs.

Interested students should check out their website (https://www.ostconline.com/) For planning purposes OSTC takes take up 6 hours each year (3 hours each semester). Programs vary between AM and PM.
NCAA Requirements for D1 & D2 College Athletics
Summer Learning Program
- Summer Learning Program (SLP) information will be available on the district website in early spring.
- Summer School is an opportunity to recover missed credit if you failed a class.
- You can also take a summer school class to increase a low grade, even if you passed. The original grade will stay on your transcript, but the GPA will reflect the new grade.
- Summer School is also an opportunity to make room in your schedule for more academics.
- Not all classes are offered in the summer, so students need to review the SLP brochure once it's available for both in person and online options.
