A New Logo Emerges!

After intense consideration and deliberation, I am pleased to announce Hixson Middle School's new logo (see below)! I would like to thank all the amazing and creative individuals who were involved in our logo redesign process. There are some specific people I'd like to thank.

1. Luciano Montes - Thank you for creating and submitting the winning design that inspired our new logo. This logo will be part of the legacy you leave behind at Hixson.

2. Thank you to the teachers (names below) on the Rebranding & Campus Beautification work group from the Transition Task Force. From creating the contest to giving feedback to our graphic designer, you stuck through to the end and helped to finalize a very cool design!

  • Kelly Williams - 6th grade Science teacher
  • Adam Vorel - 8th grade Science teacher
  • Jenny Hannel - Art teacher
  • Christen Burton - FACS teacher
  • Bridget Finnochiaro - 6th grade ELA teacher
  • Sherri Rachal - 8th grade Social Studies teacher
  • Randy Rachal - Technology Education teacher
  • Dawn Meyer - 6th grade Science teacher

3. Camden Glenn - (WGSD alum, '15) Thank you for your patience, expertise, and willingness to take on this huge project! It was very nice to have someone from the community to guide us through this process.

4. Current and future Hixson students and teachers - Thank you for voting in our logo redesign contest! You helped us make a very important decision that will impact Hixson for many years to come. Through your feedback, we learned how important the Webster top hat is to this community!

We will start using the new logo on July 1, 2021.

Sustainability Class at Hixson!

It is not too late to enroll in Hixson's new Sustainability class for next year! This is an exciting opportunity for our students to explore how to make our world a better place by taking care of our environment and taking care of each other. Students enrolled in this class will help create our community garden, learn how to grow fruits and vegetables, take care of the garden, and be empowered to design creative solutions to complex problems such as food deserts and food insecurity in our community. This is a chance to engage our students in real world, hands on learning experiences.

Revised Plan for Supporting Quarantined Students

Please click on the link below to access our revised plan for supporting students who are quarantined. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Meet & Eat - Statesmen Do Lunch!

The Hixson counselors would like to invite our virtual students to “Meet and Eat: Statesmen Do Lunch!” Meet and Eat will be a weekly lunch that is held for our virtual students via Zoom. Our purpose is to help students with support and also give them time to socialize and play games with peers that are also virtual. The meetings will be held during all lunches on every Wednesday of the month and will begin next Wednesday on February 10th. Feel free to join with snacks or a meal for lunchtime.

Please also indicate your interest in participating by submitting this form to us. Parents, if you are filling out this form for your child, please respond to the questions as if you were your child. We will send the Zoom link to all students who sign up, so please sign up ASAP!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Del’Brica Flowers (flowers.delbrica@wgmail.org) or Christy Keating (keating.christy@wgmail.org).

Attention 8th grade Parents!

As part of our 8th Grade Celebration, we will be showing a presentation with pictures of every student. We are asking parents for help by submitting 2 pictures of your child - one from their Kindergarten year and one from their 8th grade year. These do not have to be school pictures.

Please email your pictures to hill.brian2@wgcloud.org by April 16th. To help with organizing all of these pictures, please:

  1. Make sure your pictures are .png or .jpg files.

  2. Name these files as:

    1. LastName.FirstName-1 (Kindergarten), LastName.FirstName-2 (8th grade)

SIS and Canvas

This is a quick reminder for parents to please remember to check SIS for grades. SIS is our live and final gradebook. If your student moved from virtual to responsive or from responsive to virtual, the Canvas pages might show that the student has missing assignments from semester 1. If that message shows up on your students' Canvas page, it should be disregarded.

Technology Support

Below is a link to the technology support ticket system we are utilizing to provide our learners and families with the most efficient system for submitting technology support requests. Use this site to submit your request when you are having issues with your student's equipment/access/accounts/etc.
