From the Principal's Desk
Dr. Larry Savage, Principal
It’s hard to believe, but there are only 12 more days of school remaining before the 2020/21 school year concludes. Join us in helping our kids continue learning at high levels until they leave for the summer. Please know that we’re also working to find ways to build in some fun for our students. Read below for info on our upcoming Field Day and more!
Have a fantastic weekend!
End of Grade Testing
As we approach the end of a most unusual school year, we would like to share information related to End of Grade testing. Unlike spring 2020, all students are expected to take the following tests as required by federal and state laws:
End-of-grade tests in reading, mathematics (grades 3-8), and science (grades 5 and 8), including all NC Extend I Tests (grades 3-8)
Unfortunately, it is not possible to have students take these tests at home. Students will take these tests in person, in school, with health and safety protocols in place. The well-being of our students, teachers, and communities is the highest priority. To support safe settings and to give students access to the tests, the testing window has been extended so fewer students are in a school at the same time.
In-Person Students:
Reading EOG-Monday, 5/24
Math EOG-Tuesday, 5/25
Science EOG (5th Grade)-Friday, 5/28
Make up testing for in-person students will begin on Thursday 5/27
Virtual Academy Students:
Reading EOG- Wednesday, 5/26
Science EOG (5th Grade)-Friday, 5/28 (Note: Virtual Academy students will have their own testing group)
Math EOG- Wednesday, 6/2
We understand there may be concerns about students in virtual settings coming to school to take a test. Please consider the value of our teachers and staff having information on your student’s learning for this school year, particularly to support their planning for instruction for your child for the 2021/2022 school year.
As we have all experienced this school year, by working together we can make the best decisions for each student. If you have any concerns or needs, please contact your student’s teacher for more information or to have a discussion on how we can best meet the needs of your student and your family. Let’s continue to practice the Power of We.
Virtual Academy EOG's
EOG tests for Virtual Academy students in 3rd-5th grade begin on May 26th. The testing will take place in the building with all county safety protocols in place.
Please complete the form below to indicate any needs you have for transportation and/or meals on testing days. If you have more than one student in Virtual Academy, complete one form for each child. Please note if you need transportation, we will contact you to confirm details.

Parent Pro Tip: All about Syllables!
Understanding how to break words down into smaller parts helps to speed up our reading. It also helps us with spelling. These smaller chunks of words are called syllables. Take a look at the video in the link below to learn how to help your child at home with this important skill.
