A Message from the Principal
Dear HFCS Community,
Thank you so much for your flexibility and quick response to our severe weather early dismissal announcement last Friday. The weather was not as bad as expected but it is better to choose safety first in these situations.
We are all so proud of Milla Saba and Kaitlyn Szostek for the awards that they received from Bishop Olson last Saturday at the Thirty-fourth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Diocesan Memorial Mass for Peace and Justice. The topic of the Diocesan essay contest was, “How does MLK inspire you to be a light in the darkness of the world?” Milla won 1st place and Kaitlyn won second place in the 4th- 5th grade category. Milla and Kaitlyn will read their essays at our Morning Prayer on Tuesday, January 21, in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Muffins with Moms is this Friday, January 17, from 7:00 am to 8:00 am in Scatlin Hall – see you there!
Report cards will be sent home today and Accelerated Reading and Honor Roll awards will be presented on Tuesday, January 21, at Morning Prayer in the Pemberton Library. Our assembly will start at 8:00 am.
I am looking forward to seeing you next Wednesday, January 22, for our quarterly Coffee and Conversation – Father Hoa will be joining us! I will be presenting the results of the fall community survey: The Five Best Things about HFCS and the Five Growth Opportunities for HFCS. All are welcome to attend on Wednesday, January 22, at 7:30 am in Pemberton Library.

Donation Items for Silent/Live Auction
The POG Committee is looking for Silent and Live Auction items! In order for Pot O' Gold to have a successful auction, we need help from our families. Each family is asked to donate 2 items, each with a $25 value, no later than Friday, January 31, 2020. You may leave your donations at the front office or on the library stage. If you have any ideas or items for our Live Auction, please contact Tamara San Miguel at email@example.com or Maria Orand at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is not too late to be a sponsor at Pot O' Gold! Event sponsorship is offered at many levels. The levels provide reservation tickets and showcasing your family name or business through various advertising mediums at Pot O' Gold. Advertising in Pot O' Gold Program
Do you have a business that you would like advertised in the Pot O' Gold program? Ad space can be purchased for $25 (1/4 page), $50 (1/2 page), $100 (full page). Please contact Melissa Aldinger for more information at email@example.com. The deadline to purchase an ad is Wednesday, January 15.
Helping Hands Needed for Pot O' Gold Set-Up
Volunteers are needed on February 7th and 8th to help set-up and transfer items to Ridglea Country Club. If you are interested in helping, please contact Tamara San Miguel at firstname.lastname@example.org or Maria Orand at email@example.com for more information.
Please turn in raffle tickets by 2:00 pm this Friday to receive credit for the weekly sales. If you need more raffle tickets, please ask the front office. Turn in all unsold raffle tickets to the front office.
Our goal for raffle this year is $15,000 and the proceeds will go toward a new roof for the school. Tickets are $5.00 each or 6 for $25.00. The winning tickets will be drawn at Pot O' Gold on February 8. 1st place will receive a $1,500 Visa gift card and 2nd place will receive a $750 Visa gift card.

Notes from Nurse Lisa
Sneezing, red, itchy eyes are not signs to play the lottery. Unfortunately they are signs that Cedar Fever has arrived….early. Those in the Metroplex with allergies are feeling the effects of Mountain cedar, Red cedar and Juniper trees. Ways to help combat the pollen is to change your clothes and leave them out in the garage or laundry room if you’ve been outside, as well as rinse hair to get the pollen off. Be consistent with any allergy medicine, and take it at night before bed, so that when you or your child wakes, the medicine is already working J Pollen can live indoors for a long time (limit open windows or doors on windy days), and typically this “fever” season lasts until March.

Annual Appeal - We Need Your Help!
HFCS participated in the "Day of Giving" on North Texas Giving Day back in September as a soft kickoff to our annual appeal. Last month, we did a mailing with the formal ask of participating in our annual appeal. Our goal for this year is $25,000. And, more than ever, we must reach the goal to replace a much needed roof for the school.
If you have not had the opportunity to participate in the appeal, please consider doing so today. Honestly, no amount is too small. While the weather kept our Hornets from their basketball games Friday night, the 7th and 8th grade Lady Hornets defeated the St. Maria Goretti Trojans on Saturday.

Come and enjoy a spaghetti lunch with your child/children on Wednesday, January 29.
PreK-3 though third grade will eat from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. If you also have children in grades 4 though 8, they will join you for first lunch.
4th grade through 8th grade will eat from 12:00 noon to 12:45 pm.
The 8th graders will be selling desserts and soft drinks for $1.00 per item.
Your child is welcome to bring a sack lunch from home if not feasting on the spaghetti, however, please no fast food.
