NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Term 4 Week 9 - 10 December 2020
“Don’t be afraid!
I have good news for you,
which will make everyone happy.
This very day in King David’s hometown
a Saviour was born for you.
He is Christ the Lord.
You will know who he is,
because you will find him
dressed in baby clothes and lying in a manger”
We’ve finally come to the end of this school year with all of the challenges that it has presented. Whilst the pandemic has had devastating effects worldwide, we in Western Australia have been relatively insulated from these. We are blessed to live in such a wonderful place, and it has been a privilege for our school to be a significant part of keeping children both safe and engaged throughout the year. I am constantly in awe of the efforts of our staff in maintaining such a positive learning environment and thank them for their efforts.
The positivity that exists within our school was definitely on display on Tuesday night as we celebrated with our Carols and Presentation of Awards evening. The stars of the show were certainly the children with their great performances but another highlight for me was the addition to our banner which we had displayed as the children returned to school in Term 2. Not only have we been “Happy & Strong” but “We Are Still Happy and Strong” which is an absolute credit to all members of our community.
The Carols Evening was a very apt way for us to celebrate our year and the very positive feedback that I have received from many parents certainly reflects this. There was even appreciation for the item presented by the staff who certainly let everyone know that “School’s Out For The Summer”!
The establishment of the Outside School Hours Care facility is a new experience for all of us at Notre Dame and outside of the realm of what we normally deal with. That said, things are certainly moving ahead, and Sharmane Dowse will be in touch with families prior to the end of next week regarding enrolments. Due to the very high demand for places at the centre we have applied to increase our enrolment capacity from 30 to 40 students so that we are able to accommodate the needs of more of our school families. We ask for your patience as we continue our work towards establishing the much-anticipated facility.
THE ANGEL GABRIEL
Our “Go Find Gabriel” initiative has been a hit with many of the children with a number of them telling me it’s like a big Elf on the Shelf. We are constantly on the lookout for ways to engage the children and provide relevance to the events at particular times. Hopefully, apart from the fun in finding Gabriel each day, the children have made the connection between the Annunciation of Mary’s call to be the mother of Jesus and His birth at Christmas.
Look for the Year One series of photos of them finding Gabriel’s hiding places over the past few days in their item in today’s newsletter.

The School Christmas Concert was a wonderful celebration for students, staff and parents/caregivers. Congratulations to all Award recipients for your achievements and to all students on your work during 2020. The evening was a very enjoyable event.
Thank you to all staff and parents/caregivers for your work and support for the students and School during this year. I wish everyone a peaceful Christmas and a safe, restful and happy school holiday.
Altar Servers play a very visible part in Parish liturgy. For the young person, their time of altar service plays an important part in their personal spiritual growth. The Altar Servers’ special ministry is to serve in the sanctuary in areas pertaining to the altar and lectern. They assist with the smooth flow of the liturgical rite, enhancing the spirit of worship and prayer.
In July 1992, Pope John Paul II confirmed a Vatican clarification that the 1986 Code of Canon Law #230 allows both males and females of any age to assist at serving Mass.
For further information about this special ministry, please contact the Parish Office on 9277 4094.
