Forest Friends
Through Atlantic Prevention Resources first grade students have been having visits from the Forest Friends program. Forest Friends is a puppet-based primary prevention program designed to help young students learn skills in conflict resolution, decision-making and anger management. The program is designed to provide children with the coping skills they will need to enable them to grow up resilient to the risks of violence and substance abuse.
Each story helps children recognize common reactions to life situations. They are then given alternative ways to deal more positively with anger, disappointment, peer pressure, and confrontational conflicts. This week the students learned about self-esteem. The activity challenged students to share one thing that they are confident about and then the students had the chance to give each other compliments! Thank you so much to Atlantic Prevention Resources and their Forest Friends!
Members of U.S. Navy Receive Student Valentines!
As we shared in a previous newsletter, Mrs. Angelucci and Mrs. Mullen's 3rd grade ELL students, along with their classmates in Ms. Whoy's room, wrote Valentine's Day cards to members of the US Navy overseas. The students practiced their letter writing by thanking them for their service and shared some "sweet" messages with them. This week the students were very excited to receive a picture of the servicemen with their cards and they are hoping to receive a letter in return soon!
