Principal Nikki's Message
Greetings Flynn Families,
It has been a few weeks since we last connected. I can’t believe that we are already 2 months into the school year! Our staff have been working hard to build relationships with each child in our community. It is important to us at Flynn that each child feels that they have at least one trusted adult in the building at all times. I encourage you to have conversations with your child to help them to identify their trusted adults at Flynn, as we are doing the same here at school!
When we have the same conversations at home and at school, it helps bolster the message that each child matters and is valued in our school community. On that note, you may have seen a message from me this week about morning drop-off. There’s an error in the district handbook that says 7:45 is the time when supervision begins outside. We don’t actually have staff outside to supervise students until 7:50 each morning. I am working to get that feedback to the team who edits the handbook, so that we are all on the same page.
Thank you for helping us to live our community values by engaging alongside us in these conversations! And speaking of values, I just wanted to remind families that we have 5 Flynn values that we work to live each day at school. Those values were generated by my conversations with over 100 staff, students, and family members of the Flynn community back in the summer of 2022.
Our community values are joy, friendship, curiosity, growth, and accountability. In September, our value of the month was friendship - during that month, staff spent time focusing on what it looks like and sounds like to live the value. In November, we will once again have a value of the month. November’s value will be joy. We’re going to be talking about joy with students throughout the month. Some of the questions that we’ll be asking students is: What is something that brings you joy? How do you share joy with your friends and classmates at school? Some of the questions we’ll continue to ask ourselves and students are: What does it look like and sound like in the classroom, cafeteria, at recess, etc when we are living joy?
I encourage you to ask the same and other questions about joy at home too - these questions often spark deep and meaningful conversations with even the youngest students!
Finally, please join me in sharing a huge thank-you for all of our Flynn staff this month. All our staff show up ready to teach, guide, and support students every day. With all the stressors in our community and world right now, educators are tasked with maintaining a continually positive and optimistic outlook as they support our youth. I am working to show my appreciation for our staff, and I hope you will join me by sharing a quick note with your child’s teachers to show them how valued they are!
In partnership,
Principal Nikki
Counselor's Corner
In Grades K, 1 and 2
We are working on feeling identification, emotion management and goal setting in the primary grades for our wellness time. We read a lot of books together in class that help students with talking about their feelings and process strategies to cope with emotions. We have also played movement games that are focused on feelings yet also help general social skill development such as simon says, feelings charades, turn, talk, tell and more. Some of the books we have read this year are: The Day You Begin, Today I Feel Silly and Other Moods that Make My Day, The Way I Feel, The Magical Yet, Sometimes I’m Bamabloo, Peaceful Piggy Meditation, When Sophie Gets Angry.. Really Angry. All of these books can be found at your local library or as a Read Aloud online! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jill for any resources books or articles about social and emotional learning or the why behind wellness!

Amazon has decided to discontinue the Amazon Smile program, so now is a great time to start scanning Box Tops. The PTO relies on fundraising and donations to provide events such as Skate Night, the Back to School BBQ, Teacher Mini-Grants, and much more!
Scan those Box Tops!

- When prompted to find a school, type in the zip code ‘05408’ and choose Flynn from the choices and you are ready to start scanning those receipts!
- Don’t think you purchase items that count for Box Tops? Many brands such as Annie’s, Bisquick, Cheerios, Airborne, Go-Gurt, Lysol, Pillsbury, and much more are Box Tops brands. Scan that receipt and see if you can earn some money for Flynn!
Donate via Venmo. The PTO is a non-profit organization that relies on fundraising to continue its support of the Flynn community. If you are able to give a monetary donation to support the PTO programming, then it’s eas
