How to Plan and Implement Continuous Improvement In Schools
Continuing our thinking about Formative Assessment
"CCSSO has released a revised definition of formative assessment. The revised definition includes an overview of the attributes of effective formative assessment and emphasizes new areas emerging from current research, theory, and practice (e.g., disciplinary practices)."

Greetings MAASE members!
The purpose of this message is to share with you a white paper developed by the MAASE Four Focus Areas Project members.
This Project was appointed in the fall of 2016 to further define, contextualize, and operationalize the (then) newly designated Four Focus Areas of: Specially Designed Instruction, Highly Skilled Staff, High Quality Student Evaluations and Program Evaluation. These four areas are considered to be critical components for the implementation of a high quality special education framework.
Over the past two years the Project has developed written definitions and elements for each of the four areas (see the MAASE website homepage) to create a common understanding among school administrators of these concepts.
Attached you will find the recently completed white paper outlining in further depth the concepts underlying the importance of the MAASE Four Focus Areas to the future of Special Education in Michigan. This white paper was approved by the MAASE board of directors at the February 2018 meeting.
The Project members encourage you to read the document and welcome your comments. Future plans include sharing the document, along with its message and implications, with other professional organizations, including our general education colleagues.
Best Regards,
The MAASE Four Focus Areas Project Team

"Improvement work is not only “in the air,” it is “on the ground.” So, as in Field of Dreams, in a sense we did build the playing field, but more importantly, you have come to play. You have assembled here as a community of improvers. The opportunities to learn from each other and to grow together are what is truly special. "

The CSI labeling of these schools gives us all a terrific opportunity to partner in working with some of our neediest students in Oakland County. What we learn is likely to be applicable to every building within the county!
