VALENTINE’S DAY NOTE/ REMINDER FOOD POLICY
With Valentine’s Day approaching, I want to remind everyone about School Committee Policy 6619 Life Threatening Allergies, which was approved by the School Committee in August of 2015. This policy states that, “In response to the presence of food-based allergies, parents/guardians may not send outside food/candy/drink to share in the classroom. As part of a District-wide initiative to discourage the use of food as a reward, both teachers and parents/guardians are encouraged to recognize and celebrate students by methods that do not involve food. For this same reason, any projects or classroom activities should also avoid the use of food items”.
If your child’s class is exchanging Valentines, we ask that you strictly adhere to this policy. This is a school-wide rule and no Valentines that have a food ‘treat’ will be exchanged in the classroom. Your child’s teacher may have additional requests/ instructions if their classroom is exchanging this year (Please contact your child's teacher regarding their specific plans for the occasion).
Student Council Kindness Week
Attention Parent(s)/ Guardian(s) of Students In Walking Lines
Please see below regarding Davis Hill Students who walk with our crossing guards:
1. Please make sure your child is properly dressed for the winter weather. We walk on snowy, often ice covered sidewalks and streets. Coats, boots, gloves and hats are necessary during the winter months in the walk lines.
2. Parents/guardians must be at their designated pick up location for their child at the end of the day. If a parent/guardian is not present at their child's pick up location at the end of the day, their child will be walked back to the school. The only exception to this rule is if a parent sends in a note saying their child may walk home alone, or the note states that their child has permission to go with a neighbor.
3. In order to ensure that safety of all students, it is important that students are following the instructions of the crossing guards at all times.
