News from Room 9
Winter Edition
Notes from Mrs. Mays
Wow! This year is starting to seem to fly by. We are coming to the end of the first semester and getting ready to jump into our second half of second grade. As we do this, I am going to try to do things in a way to prepare your child for third grade expectations-behavior, quality of work, responsibilities, etc. They are making great growth this year academically. With this preparation, things will be changing as far as homework expectations go. I am going to begin sending home reading logs where your child is expected to respond to a daily question about the reading that is taking place nightly and you will need to sign this log nightly. More work will reflect grades, not simply checks. They will be expected to hand in quality work and if this isn't happening, they will be asked to redo it. The supply list from this summer included flash cards for addition and subtraction. Please make sure you and your child are going over these throughout the week. This is very helpful in all areas of math. I hope we can continue the growth trend, but making even bigger gains in all areas!!!
