Principal's Message
An Amazing First Week at Pond Cove
What a fantastic start to the school year at Pond Cove! Despite the hot and sticky weather, the energy and enthusiasm from our students were simply contagious. Everywhere I looked, there were beaming smiles and the sweet sound of giggles echoing through the halls.
Our amazing classroom teachers have been hard at work, fostering a sense of community among our students. During my visits this week, I witnessed the magic unfold as students engaged in fun "get to know you" games, tackled exciting team-building challenges, and shared their hopes and dreams for the year ahead. It's heartwarming to have our students back in the building, where learning and laughter go hand in hand.
Mrs. Forrey-Pettit and I had the absolute pleasure of immersing ourselves in the Pond Cove experience. We popped into classrooms, lent a hand in the cafeteria, ensured smooth arrivals and dismissals, and even joined in the fun during recess. Getting to know your children during these early weeks is just as important to us as it is to their classroom teachers. So, ask your child if they've had a chance to meet the Pond Cove principal or assistant principal yet!
We're gearing up for an exciting week two and keeping our fingers crossed for cooler weather. Remember, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you in any way we can.
Wishing you all a joyful Week Two,
Tiffany
Peaceful Pond Cove Expectations
Your child has been learning and practicing our Peaceful Pond Cove expectations. These expectations help to create a positive learning environment where students are learning to be respectful, responsible, and safe. Staff dedicate time in the initial weeks to teach and model these school-wide expectations in all common areas. We'll continue reinforcing these expectations throughout the year.
Please review the Peaceful Pond Cove expectations included in this newsletter and discuss them with your child at home. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Kindergarten - Class of 2036
The Class of 2036, our newest bunch of kindergarteners, just had a fantastic and action-packed orientation week! On Wednesday, these little learners, along with their families, joined us at Pond Cove for our Kindergarten Open House. It was a truly special occasion where they got to meet their wonderful teachers, make new friends, go on an exciting scavenger hunt in the kindergarten area, and for some, experience their very first bus ride - what an adventure!
On Thursday, September 7th, the Class of 2036 officially kicked off their school journey. Their day was filled with exploration as they got to know our school grounds, had a blast on the playground, and enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria. It was a momentous occasion, marking a big milestone in their educational journey, and we couldn't be happier to have them as part of our Pond Cove learning community.
As they dive into this exciting new chapter, we can't wait to see them grow, achieve, and add their unique sparkle to our vibrant educational family. Welcome, Class of 2036!

Bears and Salmon in 4th grade
Excitement is bubbling in Mrs. Bucci's 4th-grade classroom as her budding scientists dive headfirst into their study of bears in the captivating Katmai National Park, nestled in the wilds of Alaska!
The adventure began when students discovered the fascinating tales of Ms. Tweedie's summer expedition to Katmai. But that's just the beginning! They've been treated to the wonders of technology, watching live streams of Sockeye salmon and majestic bears in the heart of Katmai National Park. It's like a front-row seat to the wilderness, right from their classroom!
But here's where the real excitement unfolds: in the coming weeks, these young scientists will be embarking on an epic exploration of how these incredible bears must consume an entire year's worth of sustenance in under six months to brave the harsh Alaskan winter. It's a survival strategy that's both mind-boggling and awe-inspiring!
As if that wasn't thrilling enough, the class is gearing up for Fat Bear Week, where they'll get up close and personal with the bears' habitats, their remarkable adaptations, and the unique traits that enable them to conquer the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness.
This week, the focus is on the remarkable Sockeye salmon. Students are not just learning about them but witnessing them live in action. They've even taken their newfound knowledge to the canvas, creating illustrations that will soon adorn their classroom, a testament to their journey into the wilds of Katmai National Park.
New Carline Dismissal Procedures
Pond Cove staff and the Cape Elizabeth Police Department extend our heartfelt gratitude for your patience and understanding as we navigate the implementation of our new carline dismissal procedures. The recent adjustments in traffic flow have significantly improved the traffic congestion issues previously experienced on Scott Dyer Road, enhancing the safety of our students when crossing at that intersection.
We acknowledge that change can be challenging, but we are committed to fine-tuning the process to ensure a seamless carline experience for all. Your continued support and patience during this transition are immensely appreciated.
Together, we are working towards a smoother and safer carline, and your cooperation is instrumental in achieving this goal. Thank you once again for your understanding and support throughout this process.
