Message from the Superintendent

October brought some days of cooler weather, fall colors, the end of the first nine weeks of school, and parent-teacher conferences. Information about some of the events from October are included in the articles and photos below.

Jessieville Legend Marching Band Successful in Competitions

October 5, 2018, The Legend of Jessieville Marching Band performed in War Memorial Stadium at the Arkansas Showcase of Bands. The Band received the following Awards.


Superior Ratings: Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band

Overall Class 2a/3a: Outstanding General Effect.


On October 23, 2018, the Legend of Jessieville Marching Band received an Excellent rating at Region II Marching Assessment at Lakeside High School and qualified for the Arkansas State Marching Contest for the third year In a row. Please join me in congratulating them for their success!

Spanish II Classes Participate in World Fest

On October 5, Jessieville High School's Spanish II class participated in World Fest in Little Rock. This was the second year for Jessieville students to take part in this competition. The students placed second for their presentation on Spain. The entire presentation was made both in English and Spanish. The students spoke to the School Board on October 8 about their experiences in this competition.

Jessieville Students Elected to District FCCLA Offices

Jessieville High School students Rebekah George and Kaitlyn Jamison were both elected to FCCLA district offices at the October Planning and Election Meeting held at Lake Hamilton High School. Rebekah is the 2019-20 Parliamentarian, and Kaitlyn will serve as VP of Public Relations.

Elementary Terrific Kids - First Nine Weeks

The following Jessieville Elementary students were selected as Kiwanis Club Terrific Kids for the first nine weeks of school. The students were honored at the awards assembly on October 19. Students receiving the award are pictured below.

Jessieville Students Make All-Region Choir

Congratulations to the following 14 junior high students who made the All-Region Choir on Saturday, October 20: John Sapp, Brayson Swan, Matthew Goodwin, Caleb Tuck, Jesse Chavis, Justice Cole, Riley Blackmon, Kaylee Crawford, Liz Cosby, Ava Zetts, Abigail Meredith, Myah Zetts, Cotton Cummings, Bryna Mathis and Skyler Clayton (not pictured). The All-Region Clinic and Concert will be Friday, November 9, 2018 at Lake Hamilton High School.

Sr. High All Region Choir Qualifiers

Congratulations to Natalie Johnson, Grace Robertson, Jill Robertson, and Annabel Robertson. These ladies were selected to participate in the 2018 Sr. High All-Region Choir Clinic/Concert on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Lake Hamilton High School.

Speers and Morrow Address Kindergarten Classes About Jobs

On Friday, October 26, Jessieville kindergarten students visited the Jeff Click Board Room to hear Melissa Speers, Superintendent and David Morrow, School Board President speak to them about their jobs. Mrs. Speers and Mr. Morrow discussed the role of superintendents and school boards and how schools operate. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Morrow and Mrs. Speers about their duties and responsibilities. Following the discussion, students toured the Central Adminstrative Office.

Homecoming Royalty 2018

The Jessieville School District celebrated Homecoming on October 19. Homecoming royalty were selected by the senior class and were named prior to the football game that evening during the ceremony in the Sports Arena. Laiken Boyd was named 2018 Homecoming Queen and Jeffery Scott was the 2018 Homecoming King.

Arkansas State Police Helicopter Visits Jessieville Elementary

Jessieville Elementary students were treated to a visit from the Arkansas State Police helicopter on October 26. The helicopter was piloted by Jessieville graduate, Cory Ray and landed on the practice football field. Students learned about the different ways the helicopter is used and were allowed to view it up-close and ask questions.
