East Limestone Agriscience
Agriscience and FFA News
Teacher Introduction
A short introduction of myself: This is my third year teaching at East Limestone High School. Prior to teaching here I taught for 3 years starting the Agriscience program at Pike Road Schools in Pike Road, Alabama. I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors in Agriscience Education and completed my Masters online from there last year. I love being outdoors and all things agriculture. I am passionate about my job and love teaching!
In the Classroom
Fundamentals of Agriscience
Fundamentals of Agriscience is an introductory course that provides students with general overview of animal science, plant science, environmental science, industrial agriculture technologies, and general agriculture. Students are involved in classroom and/or laboratory activities in each of the five pathway areas. Emphases of Fundaments of Agriscience include introduction to agriculture, technology, The National FFA, leadership, forestry, soils, wildlife, plants, aquaculture, animals, and woodworking.
What we are currently covering:
Currently students have been learning about the National FFA Organization and all that it has to offer. As an INTRA-curricular organization, participation is required for Agriscience classes. Any activity or participation that is absolutely required will be during school or class time, as I realize that students have a TON of stuff to do outside of school and do not wish to add to their stress. However, there will also be plenty of additional opportunities for students to participate outside of school time if the wish.
Attached below is the course syllabus that students were sent home with today.
Intermediate Agriscience
Intermediate Agriscience builds on the basic understanding of the plant science, environmental science, industrial agricultural technologies, and general agriculture pathways. Students are involved in classroom and laboratory activities in each area. Intermediate Agrsiceince emphasizes plant systems, environmental systems, and industrial agricultural technologies.
What we are currently covering:
This week in Agriscience students have been refreshing their FFA knowledge and discussing what we would like to see from this school year. The shop is receiving new welding equipment that Intermediate Agriscience students will get to use, and they have been working to clean and organize the shop to prepare for their installation.

Advanced Agriscience
Advanced Agriscience provides students with an increased understanding of animal science, industrial agricultural technologies, and general agriculture. Students are involved in classroom and laboratory activities in each area. Advanced Agricscience emphasizes animal science and industrial agricultural technologies.
What we are currently covering:
Advanced Agriscience is during the same class period as Intermediate Agriscience and they are currently covering the same things. However, as the class continues, Advanced Agriscience students will delve deeper into animal science and also have an opportunity to further their knowledge in a topic they are personally interested in, as well as increase their skills in a shop related topic (welding, woodworking, engines, etc.)
Attached below is the course syllabus that students were sent home with today.
Introduction to Animal and Dairy Science
Introduction to Animal and Dairy Science introduces students to the field of livestock production and animal health and welfare. Students participate in activities related to the animal science field as they study the importance of the livestock industry, breed identification, disease control, genetics and reproduction, animals rights versus animal welfare, livestock facilities and transportation, and regulatory agencies.
What we are currently covering:
Like the other classes, we are covering FFA in Animal and Dairy Science currently. As an intracurricular organization, FFA is important to every student that takes an agriscience class.
