RAMdom Student of the Week
Bailey
Bailey is one of our stand-out 7th grade students. She is a key player on the RMS Volleyball team. She is also a big part of the Interact Club (a service organization affiliated with the Rotary Club).
Bailey is perhaps best known for the time she spends working with local service projects. Last year she worked on a class project in Coach Scott's room making Christmas gifts for underprivileged kids out of shoe-boxes. The Dresses for Girls in Africa Project that she is now working on has students turning donated pillow cases into dresses for girls in Africa. She is the Service Project Chairman for this project. Bailey explained that, "the main idea of the project is to make girls in Africa feel worthy and to send hope to them."
We wish her the best and thank her for being an inspiration and role model at RMS.
Club of the Week
Tech Titans
Tech Titans is an afterschool club open to anyone at RMS that uses technology and STEM opportunities as the platform to inspire students. Tech Titans began in 2015 with a single 3D printer purchased with grant monies awarded by the Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation. Over the years the club has grown in size and in technology. Tech Titans bring their interests and inquiries to the club and work to make them a reality. Some of our favorite projects have included printing prosthetic hands, printing a life size electric guitar, designing and printing all ornaments for a Vincent Van Gogh inspired Christmas Tree and our raised bed gardens. The club has also taken some really great field trips. We have gotten to go to ORNL to see their additive manufacturing facility as well as Local Motors where they are working on a 3D-printed driverless bus! STEM learning has powerful potential to connect students to future interests and careers. By having this club after school, all students are afforded the opportunity to be a part of STEM learning.
