Guidance Lessons for September
Parent Tip for September
Responsibility
RESPONSIBILITY is...
Being responsible means others trust you to do things that you say you're going to do. You are accountable for your actions. Responsibility is the ability to make intelligent choices based on good values. When you make a mistake, and you offer to make amends instead of blaming others or making excuses, you are showing a strong sense of responsibility.
Parents can help children develop responsibility by...
- Not criticizing their actions. It doesn't matter if they don't do their schoolwork perfectly. What matters is that they were responsible doing it. Recognize that.
- Instead of offering rewards to get them to meet responsibilities, set up a morning routine with a positive end result.
- Encourage them to be compromised with people around them. If they feel committed to something or someone, they will develop responsibility.
- Let them be as responsible as they agreed to be. Don't clean up their mess if you feel frustrated because they didn't do it correctly. Remind them instead that they have unfinished tasks.
Get a head start on your future
Xello is an engaging, online program that helps students transform their aspirations into personalized, actionable plans for academic, college & career success.
Kindergarten - 2nd grade students will visit Career Town to learn about various careers within a specific entity.
Our 3rd thru 5th grade students will dig deeper into various careers by completing missions. These missions have lessons which will allow them to understand that their talents and skills which will guide them to a specific future career.
BeKind:Online
Just as we equip our students with academic skills, we also need to prepare them to live in a digital world. Let's help our students understand how to protect their identity online. Being mindful of their digital footprint is important at every age.
Because we teach kindness let's encourage them to treat each other with respect and not participate in any form of cyberbullying. If your students knows of someone participating in this type of behavior please encourage them to report the incident to an appropriate adult that can help.
Let's practice kindness: Give kind compliments online, celebrate someone you love, send an email thanking someone, tell someone how special they are to you.
Join the movement and share your intentional acts of kindness on social media using #BeKindGPISD
