THIS WEEK: Creek Week 2020, 9/21-9/28
September 21th – 28th 2020 is Creek Week in the Russian River Watershed!
In prior years, the City of Cotati has hosted a Creek Week cleanup day on the Laguna Trail running through Cotati. But this year, to be safe, they are asking volunteers to register online to participate and go clean up for however long they would like anytime during creek week, 9/21-9/28.
GET VOLUNTEER HOURS:

THIS WEEK: Private Colleges of California Virtual Workshops, begin 9/23
Private Colleges of California (PCoC), is an association of 20 private, non-profit colleges and universities in California with the mission of educating students and families about the accessibility, benefits, support, and opportunities offered by California’s private 4-year institutions.
STARTING SEPT 23RD, offering a series of afternoon and early evening virtual college workshops this Fall that will be open to all students interested in learning more about the college application process, in general, and the opportunities for having a high-quality California private college experience, in particular.

THIS WEEK: Best of Texas Virtual Open House, 9/23 & 9/26
For California students and their families: Six universities in Texas will present an impressive array of opportunities. You will hear a brief overview of each school. Then, you will also have an opportunity to visit with each university's representative in a breakout room to get the latest update on their admission and scholarship process for the 2020-2021 application cycle, new programs, and much more.
Participating Colleges: Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, Southwestern University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, and University of Houston
THIS WEEK: Latino College Expo, 9/25
The Virtual Latino College Expo is an ONLINE Experience for students to get access to colleges, highlighting Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other educational programs. It also is a celebration of “Hispanic Heritage Month”.
Students find out all they need to know to get into college. There is information on DACA, Dream ACT, Internship & Career opportunities and educational programs. Latino College Expo (LCE) is a strong support program for first generation students. In addition, some of the colleges will waive their application fees, offer scholarships and even possibly grant ACCEPTANCES on the SPOT!

NEXT WEEK: Conservation Council Application, DUE 10/4
Sonoma Land Trust is launching the official start of our Conservation Council after a successful pilot this summer. We are seeking youth, 14-18 years old, who are interested in learning more about the vital lands of Sonoma County and helping the environment by conducting conservation science research during the 2020-2021 school year.
Starting October 20, we’ll host online meetings and field trips to remote preserves protected by Sonoma Land Trust. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research at Laufenburg Ranch, get to know the beautiful open landscapes of Sonoma County, learn about conservation efforts and contribute to protecting vital ecosystems.
Participants will receive a stipend of $1,000 paid out in two increments after qualifying participation completion. An additional stipend of $200 will be provided for purchase of necessary outdoor safety equipment. Participation in the Conservation Council is also eligible as volunteer hours.
NEXT WEEK: Manufacturing Month w/ CTE Foundation
October is Manufacturing Month!
CTE Foundation, Sonoma County EDB, and SCOE have teamed with local manufacturers to create several virtual activities designed to help students understand and explore careers in manufacturing.

All events will be streamed live on Zoom and the CTE Foundation YouTube Channel.
Students will be able to interact live by commenting and asking questions in the chat. Recordings of all activities will be available to view after the live stream on this webpage.
NEXT WEEK MFG Month Event Highlight: "Saving Lives Through Engineering and Manufacturing," 10/6
For the first virtual event in the 2020 MFG Month, students can experience Medtronic through a series of virtual tours followed by a live Q&A session with R&D Engineer Matthew Baldwin. Matt will discuss his career, the company, and answer any questions from the viewers.
