A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...
Dear Osbourn Family,
I hope you and your family enjoyed the (albeit icy) weekend. Thank you to all that participated in our Kindness Week at Osbourn. Keeping with the themes of love and celebration, we are eagerly planning the return of students to in-person learning. We are busy making the final preparations to welcome our students back in the building. Please be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks as the dates become finalized. We have started our VHSL Athletic Season II, with our first football game this Friday night at Osbourn Park High School. Good luck to all of our student athletes! A friendly reminder to our students that there are only three weeks left in the quarter. This is the time to check your grades and make up any missing assignments.
Please stay safe during this winter weather. As always, thank you for your continued support and please reach out if you have questions.
#OneOsbourn
Sincerely,
Mike Pflugrath

Over the past 7 years that we have been an AVID school, 100% of our Osbourn AVID graduates have been accepted to college!!
AVID is now accepting applications for the 2021-22 school year from current 9th and 10th graders. Applications will be accepted through February 23.
Click on AVID Application and complete the application to join the AVID FAMILY!!

Grading Policy
In light of the challenges of the 2020-21 school year, provisional changes have been made to this year’s grading policies. The changes are to be applied to the 3rd quarter gradebook through the remainder of the school year. It is posted in our MCPS Board Docs. Please see the link to view the regulation: http://go.boarddocs.com/va/mcpsva/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=BY3KLL52679C. The following requirements only apply to the assignments, assessments, and final grades earned during the third and fourth quarter.
Grading Assignments and Assessments
Update: Please note the following modifications to grading expectations effective for the 3rd quarter through the remainder of the 2020-21 school year:
The lowest grade on any assignment or assessment will be 50% of the maximum value of the assignment. Students who make a reasonable attempt to complete an assignment/assessment will receive a grade no lower than 55%.
Late Work
Update: Effective for the 3rd quarter through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, students will earn full credit for an assignment/assessment completed after its due date with no late penalty. A final due date of one week before the end of the quarter may be set by the teacher/team.
Additional Opportunities to Demonstrate Proficiency
Update: Students may reattempt any assignment and/or assessment grade. Teachers will give students full credit earned on all reattempts and will use the higher score to calculate a third or fourth quarter grade. Students must submit all reattempts prior to the end of the third or fourth quarter.
Pass/Fail Option
Update: A student in a high school credit-bearing course may choose to take a pass or fail final grade in lieu of a final course percentage grade. If a student chooses this option, the student or parent must contact the teacher by May 15, 2021. If a student elects to take a course pass or fail, the pass or fail grade will not be calculated into the student’s cumulative GPA. Students with final course averages of 59% or below will automatically receive a fail in lieu of a final course percentage grade.

GLOW OF THE WEEK...
Our glow of the week is our winter sports athletes: Wrestling, Boys and Girls Basketball, Swim, Track, and Cheer. You successfully navigated the first athletic season during COVID and you did it in a safe and responsible manner. Your ability to lead the way on how to conduct in-person activities successfully set the example for all of us. It was great to see you competing for Osbourn High School and demonstrating a perfect sportsmanship record. Special thanks to our Senior student-athletes and their parents. Thank you for all you have done for Osbourn High School. We look forward to hearing about your future successes. We do have one winter sports athlete still competing. Please join me in wishing Tyler Husband all the best as he represents Osbourn in the VHSL 6A State Track Meet this week in the triple jump. Good luck Tyler!
