Directions

Happy Friday Bear Creek Elementary.

Use this SMORE as your guide to COURAGE.

You may go in sequential order or you may move around. All activities (aside from the read aloud section) are for all students. On the read aloud section you will see the ages listed however if you want to listen to both please feel free.

Younger students will require some assistance with the reading and the interviews.

You will use three different mediums (Google Form ; Padlet ; Word Cloud) to record your answers and they will be listed in the section directions for clarity.

These activities are not necessarily meant to be completed Friday, for example it may not be possible to conduct the interviews until perhaps the weekend. Feel free to take your time if needed.

Have a great Friday!

WHY DID WE START WITH COURAGE?

Great Question Cubs!

Read the Maya Angelou quote or have someone read it to you (if you need help) and think about what it means to you.

Think REALLY hard and choose ONE WORD that you felt after hearing/reading this quote.

Post your word here

Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. The picture above is from President Clinton's 1993 inauguration where she read her poem "On The Pulse Of Morning."

BONUS ACTIVITY

THIS IS OPTIONAL

Both Maya Angelou and Amanda Gorman (pictured below) have had to overcome adversity in their lives. They also both just happened to recite poems for incoming Presidents which is quite an honor. Do some research and find out how each displayed courage in their lives.

SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT

OK Cubs,

Let's see COURAGE in action. Ms. Sheeran, Ms. Pitts, and I want you to try something new today.

Why?

Courage doesn't always have to look like a superhero saving the day. It could be as simple as trying something new ... so let's see it.

Try something new today, choose from the menu below or "do your own thing" ... tells us what you did or BETTER YET snap a picture ... whatever you choose to do let us know what you did by posting on this Padlet

https://padlet.com/david_crissey/gq57vpjie6ujfze0

  1. Give a friend or family member a compliment
  2. Invite a new friend to play
  3. Try a new food you have been nervous to taste
  4. Try a new activity
  5. Talk to an adult about a worry
  6. Tell a friend what’s been bothering you
  7. Give a neighbor a compliment
  8. Write someone a nice note
  9. Share your talent with someone (for example ... sing for them, play instrument, show a drawing)
  10. Do your own thing

Express Yourself With Color

These are meant to be printed and colored if you would like. These are not mandatory activities however they might give you a chance to relax and think about the times you have displayed courage or times you have seen others be courageous. Have fun!

I found success by right clicking on the image I wanted and opening it in a new tab and then printing from that new tab.
