Sequences and Series (MTH112)
Weekly Content - Sequences and Series
In some physical situations, properties change in a consistent way over time, e.g. increasing by a certain amount or a certain factor every month. These situations are what mathematicians call sequences. If you add up the values in a sequence, you get what we call a series.
Weekly Motivation
Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show.

-- Bertrand Russell
The finish line is finally in sight. I want to take a minute to congratulate all of you who have made it this far. The hard, unforgiving beauty that Russell described makes math a stern taskmaster. Making it through to the end of her lessons is definitely an accomplishment.

Getting Help
The University offers a live tutoring service to all students. If you feel you need to actually speak to someone about your questions, you can set up an appointment with the Online Math Center by clicking on the "Online Tutoring" button on the left side of this page. That will take you to a form that you can fill out to be contacted by one of the math center's tutors.
Tech Support
If you're having technical issues with accessing or using Blackboard, you should contact the Baker College help desk at (800) 645-8350. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have about the course's content but faculty don't have the training or access to do any kind of tech support
The Final Exam
I'm sure everyone is aware that the final exam is due at the end of the week. It's worth quite a few points and covers material so I encourage everyone to spend some time preparing before attempting it. If you have questions about any of the material, please post them in the discussion board or in our private discussion area so we can go over them.
