Hooray Vista Athletes!

The Eagle's soccer team won their game on Friday. The track team also finished strong...stay tuned for the final results of the meet! Thanks, as always, to our awesome coaches for dedicating their spare time to our students.

Talent Show Is Near!

Ms. Bennett and Ms. Landeros are planning to hold auditions for the Vista Talent Show this week after school. Please make sure to pass the information along to your students and inform them that there will be an audition sign-up sheet in front of Room 9. Auditions will be held:

Tuesday-5/5, Thursday-5/7, Friday-5/8 from 3:00-4:00 in ROOM 9

SBAC/Summative Updates

Compliments to those who spear-headed the SBAC assessment last week. We have learned a lot and realize that overall, the tests (both SBAC and Summative) are taking much longer than expected. I know this has been stressful for some of you trying to squeeze it all in but please know that we appreciate your flexibility and creativity in coming up with solutions to get the tests completed. If tests are not completed in your allowed time-frame, there is time at the end of the month (and even into June) for make-ups.

Student Feedback Surveys

Don't forget to have your students take the feedback survey by next week. The website has been uploaded on our webpage for easy access for the kiddos! Please make sure to let me know when your class is completed so we can keep track. Great job Ms. Pavageau and Ms. Downey for being among the first to have them done!

Openings for Next Year

If you have any friends looking for work next year (K-8 teachers, instructional assistants, one-to-one aide, office clerks), please have them go to edjoin and fill out an application. You can also ask them to send me their resume and a brief cover letter directly to speed up the process if they are interested. It's going to be a great year!

Marvel Universe Live

Because of the great recycling effort from last week, many of our families got to attend the Marvel Universe Live show last night and it was a hit!

Instructional Focus:

2.2A and B - Behavior Expectations and Response to Behavior - At this point in the year, it is clear that students are gearing up for summer and often pushing the limits as far as behavior goes. Please remember that though it is exhausting (and we are gearing up for summer too), that consistency is very important in maintaining positive behavior. A few things to remember:

1) Positive reinforcement goes a LONG way!

2) Staying calm is key...yelling at students is not an effective (or acceptable) practice...once they see you yell, it sends the message to them that yelling is a good response to frustration and that it's ok for them to do it too.

3) Have you tried all possible interventions before sending students to the office for consequences?
