Gratitude and Thanksgiving

Hello Arroyo School Community, as we enter the season of gratitude and thanksgiving, I want us to remember to look out and support our community members. I want to ask for undying commitment to our scholars’ safety and security. Please work diligently to protect each other and be a blessing to one another. We all have difficulties we are facing or have faced, therefore I need all of us to be empathetic and compassionate for all of our community members. Help someone, anyone in need, use grace, patience, humility and kindness to be at our best during this season. Together embracing characteristics that brings out the best of our humanity will generate strength for now and in the future. Inspire each to believe in our best selves to act with an open heart and an open mind. As we believe in and expect the best from each other we will rise to our destiny. I am asking for the Arroyo School Community to be a beacon of hope for all and especially each other during this holiday. Please stay safe, blessed and in peace.

Increased Funding For the Classroom:
  • Every student who is under a certain income, learning English, or in foster care generates 20% more funding. In districts where at least 55% of students are high need, they receive even more funding. The dollars generated by high need students are spent to increase or improve services for all of our students

Aeries: The Parent Portal to Grades and Attendance

As you may be aware, the district shifted our grading calendar for this year. The old system sent only progress reports for grades at or below C- along with an 8-week quarter grade. Now each student should receive a grade for each class at the end of each 6-week marking period, along with the semester grade, which goes on the official transcript, at the end of January.


The second 6 week marking period ends on November 30th. This will be the best chance to see how everyone is doing in their classes and serves as a good warning as we prepare for the end of the semester.


The best way for parents and guardians to stay on top of students' grades is to be active on your Aeries Parent Portal. To log in, you'll need your parent portal email address and password. Below is a short video highlighting the important grade and attendance information for you to see. The links to both the parent portal and the info video are included here:

Wellness Center & Coordination of Student Services

Does your scholar need a little extra support? Our Virtual Wellness Center is taking appointments through this form: Wellness Center Check In. Scholars can meet with our school social worker, Ms. Mitchell-Morton, and receive some tools to help them through their day.


If your scholar has needs related to academic performance, mental/behavioral health, mentoring, traditional health-care needs, internal/external athletics, art, music, employment, etc. If you are in need of additional support, please complete the COST Referral Form.


If it is an emergency, please contact administrators or school counselors

for an immediate intervention for the student.

Athletics Update

We were able to begin a small number of on-campus conditioning pods for a few of our Season 1 sports. These district-approved pods quickly filled up for Football, Cross Country, and Cheer, and it has been great to see our student athletes in person. Our coaches have done a GREAT job of managing the state, county, and school district requirements to keep these pods safe for both students and staff.


On that note, we are still awaiting an announcement from the Governor, as well as the Alameda County Public Health Department which will tell us what we will be allowed to do, and when we will be allowed to do it. So far, both the California Interscholastic Federation and the North Coast Section have indicated that they, too, are waiting for these announcements before making any formal announcements of their own. Everyone on all levels is hopeful that we will know sometime in the next two weeks so our athletes, families, and staff can plan accordingly.

Student Transit Pass

The Student Transit Pass Program (STPP) provides free youth Clipper cards to eligible middle and high school students in Alameda County which can be used for unlimited free bus rides in their area (on AC Transit, Union City Transit or LAVTA Wheels), as well as a 50 percent discount on BART trips and youth discounts on other transit systems.


Bus Fare Update

Until recently, AC Transit was offering fare free (no cost) service due to the pandemic. On October 19th, AC Transit reinstated fares, and bus trips in Alameda County are no longer free. The STPP program is here to ensure that students can continue to rely on transit and

travel free of charge.


How Can Students Ride Transit Safely During COVID-19?

During COVID-19, it is especially important that students know how to ride transit safely to keep themselves, their families, and community healthy. Our new STPP flyer illustrates AC Transit’s COVID-19 protocols. Please share this flyer with your families to ensure students are aware of how to ride the bus safely and are prepared when they need to travel to/from school or other activities.

Please come to the AHS library Monday-Thursday between 12:00-2:45 pm to pick up a device. Please bring your id (it can be an old one) or current schedule and don't forget your mask!


Do you need a Hotspot?

Please complete the Student Technology Needs Survey and Agreement.

If you have filled out the Student Technology Needs Survey, you should be hearing from TIS shortly. You do not need to fill out the survey again.
