At The Creek....

We Made It!
- Student attendance to lessons shows that they're ready for school, no matter what form it takes this year.
- We handed out approximately 250 bags full of student learning materials which brought smiles to student faces!
- Teachers and school staff are beginning to feel a though they've "got" the hang of some of the technology tools which helps them to guide students and families.
- Mrs. Hipsak reports that her 5th graders are "rocking" online learning and that she is proud of them!
- Ms. Runge had 100% attendance for her morning meeting three days in a row!
- Mr. Pemble has been learning technology to be the best possible distance PE teacher. He learned how to put a countdown timer in his video and how to show a screen within a screen!
- The number of phone calls for support have diminished in the office, which we hope means that things are getting easier for our families at home.
- I've seen a number of students riding bikes or skateboards by out front and get to wave or say hello on occasion! Our kids are definitey getting in their outdoors time!
- Mrs. Evans learned to link an image to a video-we are getting to be technologically savvy!
The days at school are much different without students in the building and I hope you know how much they are missed. At this point, I'd love to see a child run down the hallway in order to have a chance to interact with s/he in a conversation about safety-and to just visit in general. What is great though is the fact that our students are interacting with one another through the class lessons and meetings. Although we are starting slow with our instruction to give everyone a chance to get back into routines, you'll see the move into curriculum starting up next week. We are excited to do so!
As I'm sure you've heard from the teachers in our In School program that we are doing assessments to start this year with the iReady program online. With everyone out of school for such a lengthy time, this gives us a starting point for instruction. A warning: The assessment does start with questions that are probably going to be difficult for your child. As the student(s) make errors, the test adjusts itself to give more appropriate questions that will bring success. The program then shares data with the teachers about a student's areas of strength and those needing additional focus to enable us to work with small groups to build skills. Additionally, it will allow your child the chance to do asynschronous learning at home in Reading and Math at their individual level at any time-on our Wednesdays without direct teacher instruction, as well as the other 5 days of the week (to include Saturdays and Sundays if you choose!). We look forward to being able to make data-based decisions for our instruction this year.
Thank YOU for your assistance at home in helping to get this assessment completed!
I have been recording morning announcements for students that should be showing up on the Canvas page of our In School learners between 9:00 and 9:30. More information will be coming home from our PE team of Mr. Dixon and Mr. Pemble as well as from Ms Erikson and Mrs. Barnes. I'm looking for a few student jokes to share in announcements-I'd love to hear from your child if they have one! Send it my way via email or in the comments of today's announcements.
Please remember that I'm here if you have questions or thoughts at any time. Feel free to call or email peterson_kristina@asdk12.org!

Attendance and Logging in on time
Just like when we are in the building, any time missed while being 'tardy' to school is hard to recover from. The teachers aren't able to go back and share all of the information missed, which makes it hard for the student. The suggestion is to treat this just like any other school day by setting the alarm and going through the typical morning routine (breakfast, brush teeth and hair, etc) to be at your seat for class. (Just pretend it's your desk!).
A quick thought: Any routines built now will make it easier to transition when we get to return to the building! :)
A Safety Thought
Skateboards are also big again with the kids and it seems like many of them are sitting on the boards rather than standing. As you can imagine, this is very scary to be doing behind the cars as the height of the boarder is far below the back windows of vehicles.
It would be heartbreaking to have anyone injured on school grounds. I hope you'll take a moment to visit with your children (including those in secondary schools) about being safe as they ride through the school.
The Three P's of Reading-and supporting students
Dear Rabbit Creek Families,
On behalf of your Rabbit Creek PTA board, welcome back to Rabbit Creek Elementary!
We recognize that this year is unique and while we may not be able to host our usual programs and events, we are already looking ahead and planning ways to network and provide enrichment opportunities for our families. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our PTA family by signing up to be a member. There is absolutely no obligation to attend meetings or volunteer your time--your membership simply helps support programs and activities here at RC and helps keep you in the know!
Our monthly board meetings are open to everyone and occur the second Tuesday of each month with a few exceptions. This year, meetings will be held virtually via Zoom. September’s board meeting is one of those exceptions. With Labor Day holiday around the corner, it will be held on the first Tuesday in September on September 1st at 7:00pm. We hope you can join us!

We are still looking for volunteers to join our PTA Board for the coming school year. Many of our Executive Board members have chosen to homeschool this year and therefore could use some extra support in their current roles. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to us.
Don’t forget to snag some new spirit wear this year! Online Spirit Wear orders are due by September 9th (order at http://stores.blue84spirit.com/AK03). As always, stay informed by visiting our website at www.rabbitcreekpta.org or by joining our closed Facebook group “Rabbit Creek PTA”. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Respectfully,
Tina Baldridge
