Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 9th June 2023
Times Tables Rockstars
In Key Stage 2, the children spent time practising their times tables with a competitive edge, trying to build up class points on Times Tables Rock Stars with Year 5 versus Year 6, and Year 3 versus Year 4. Year 3 narrowly edged their battle and Year 5 were delighted with a resounding victory over Year 6!
Year 1 and Year 2 competed against each other in a KS1 Numbots/Times Tables Rock Stars battle and Year 2 were the champions. This afternoon, we had a times table obstacle course where the children had to complete different sports competitions but with a times table twist focusing on the 2, 5 and 10x tables. It was a great afternoon, all of the children showed good sportsmanship and helped others.
We finished the week dressed as rock stars, and the children (and quite a few members of staff!) all looked amazing!
Fabulous Fair Ground Rides
Year 6 Design Project
Year 6 explored how fairground rides move and work before design their own rides with horizontal or vertical rotation. They had some great ideas and managed to finish their products to a high standard. Well done Year 6.
Thank you Darcy
Sports Day - 2023
Children in the Early Years (Reception and Nursery) will have their races in the morning at around 9am - do stay if you can after drop off.
Children in Years 1-6 will have their events in the afternoon from 1.30pm
The forecast for the day is looking good (at this moment). Please ensure that children have the following with them:
- Black shorts and plain white t-shirt (no jogging bottoms please)
- Sun cream (all day creams are great. Children can bring their own but should be able to self apply)
- Water bottles (with water!)
- Suitable sun hat
For safety reasons, we do ask that children do not wear jewellery or sun glasses.
The Friends will be selling ice lollies for visitors. Please do not buy them for your children during the event as we will be providing a cooling treat during the afternoon.
I am sure it will be another great community occasion.
What a treat it has been to watch the magical transformation of the butterfly life cycle. We took great care of our five little caterpillars, watched as they formed chrysalides and then marvelled as beautiful butterflies emerged. We released our butterflies and delighted in seeing them fluttering free.
Learning about being a chorister at Ripon Cathedral
We were delighted to welcome Dr Krippner, the Director of Music at Ripon Cathedral, into school to tell the children all about what it means to be a Cathedral Chorister. Ramsay and Iris helped Dr Krippner to show what a chorister wears and also what they do on a weekly basis.
After the worship lots of children took the opportunity to audition and sing for Dr Krippner. You can learn more about what it means to be a chorister by clicking on the video below.
