Traveling Iron Cardinal of the Week
Stephanie Hart: "I passed the Iron Cardinal to Dawn Magee this week. Dawn is kind, caring and gives kids the patience they sometimes need. She has the ability to reach out and show students that if they just try a little more than they will succeed. Her excitement for life is often contagious. Thank you, Dawn, for always bringing a smile!"
This award is to be passed along from one colleague to the next every Friday. The weekly recipient selects the next recipient and so on. The goal is to select an unsuspecting person outside of your regular contacts and to recognize their contributions to GVHS. (selection ideas...custodians, secretaries, teachers, paras, advisors, counselors, lunch ladies...ect.)
2020-21 Course Recommendations: Due March 9th by 4:00pm
Our goal is to have the Master Schedule and Student schedules complete before we leave in May for summer break. The hope is to not be playing musical chairs with schedules for the first 2-3 weeks of school in August so we can hit the ground running on the first day of school.
We know this has/will cause some stress due to the quick turn around. Some things to keep in mind:
- Just because we make a recommendation now does not mean it is set in stone. As kids demonstrate proficiency in the next few months we can revise their recommendation.
- Hopefully, after 7 months, we as educators have a pretty good idea around the capabilities of our students and what will best fit their needs in the coming year.
- Having a rough idea of courses and sections based on student needs helps us to determine the best course of action when looking at staffing needs/placement for the 20-21 school year.
- Teaching staff will be notified first before student schedules are released. This will allow us time to contact parents with course recommendations based on the proficiency of their child. The target date for student schedules is May 8th. (subject to change)

3:00 - 3rd-semester grades posted. Once posted please confirm (in-person) with Chris Abbey before you leave.
4:00 - Course recommendations for 2020-21 complete.
Midterm Grades
Posting grades are the first thing in a chain of events that must happen so that we as a school can effectively communicate with parents in a timely manner.
- Post Content to Content and Responsibility to Responsibility. Please post all TA grades, Study Halls and advisories as P/F under responsibility.
- Please email any incompletes to Chris Abbey so we can report out for eligibility purposes.
- Lastly, see Chris Abbey (in-person) when your grades are complete so we can check to make sure everything looks ok.
Why is it important to have grades in by 3:00?
- Posted Grades are completed by all teachers (3:00 on Monday the 9th.)
- Chris does final check (Monday afternoon the 9th)
- All Report Cards are printed (Tuesday morning the 10th)
- Envelopes stuffed (Afternoon of Tuesday the 10th)
- Report Cards mailed. (Wednesday Afternoon the 11th or 1st thing on Thursday the 12th)

We are doing a minimum of 1 responsibility grade and 1 content grade per week. 16 total grades minimum for the 2nd semester should be entered by Thursday before 12:00.
